    Hello Folks,

I have almost 3 year old Sony SZ-330 P/B, it originally had 2GB ram.
Is it possible to upgrade this ram to 4GB?

Here's original spec on the ram,

    Type: DDR2SDRAM
    Installed: 2GB (1GBx2) PC2-4200
    Maximum: 2GB
    Speed: 533MHz

Because the spec said "maximum: 2GB" I'm wondering if I can upgrade.
    Thank you for helping me!

You can upgrade to 3GB. Even if you upgrade to 4GB, the BIOS will only detect 3GB.

It can detect upto 4GB. You might need R0096N0 or R0112N0 version of BIOS, if your system BIOS don't detect RAM properly. Also another point to consider is, 32bit OS has ~3GB limit.

I did try R0096N0 and R0122N0, the BIOS can only detect 3GB, that's why I said 3GB is max.

    Thank you for quick replies.

So when you guys say BIOS will only detect up to 3GB, even with 4GB installed, you mean that the laptop will only utilize 3GB of ram and "ignore" the other 1GB?

I think NHT is correct. I'm confused for a second. only SZ6 & SZ7 laptops support upto 4GB, but not SZ4 and under

Yes that is correct, even 4GB is installed. 32 bit OS can use only upto 3GB

    Thank you again!

So for my case, what would be the best way to upgrade?
Just add two 2GB rams? or should I get 1GB+2GB?

Unless you are too much worried about memory timing, just add 2GB

I'll just add 2GB. Last question is, do I have to go with PC2-4200
or can I go with something like PC2-6400?

Yes, you can go for PC2-4200 or faster (5300, 6400)

It depends on what you got currently. Sony by default installs PC2-4200 for SZ3 models. If that is the case, PC2-4200 is recommended. Because PC2-6400 will try to match PC2-4200 frequency (533 MHz).
