I've run into a serious problem... iTunes does not detect my SZ-450N/C's internal disc drive as being able to burn CD's. iTunes will READ audio CD's fine from the drive, however it doesn't seem to recognize that the drive can actually BURN them.

In the device manager, Vista detects the drive as a MAT****A DVD-RAM UJ-852S. Is this correct? I know that the drive can actually burn CD's/DVD's, because Nero detects all of the burning capabilities correctly.

Is this a problem with iTunes or with the specific driver that Windows has installed for my drive? Was the automatic hardware detection wrong, accidentally installing the drivers for a less-capable DVD-RAM drive?

Thanks for the help... This is extremeley aggravating. Especially since iTunes can burn CD's just fine when I boot up into OS X lol.

    Hm what?

Well does it burn under Windows when you use Nero? I've got a SZ4 Vista with iTunes and it burns fine.

Yeah, it burns under Windows when I use Nero. Can you tell me what Windows lists your drive as in the Device Manager?

Okay, my original post was late at night so maybe this one will clear things up.

I did a "semi-clean" install of Vista on my SZ450N/C. I'm not sure if Vista installed the right drivers for the DVD drive. Vista detects the drive as a "MATSH(I)TA DVD-RAM UJ-852S."

I can burn CD's and DVD's fine using Nero... But I can't burn a cd in iTunes. iTunes recognizes that I have a disc drive, but it doesn't recognize it as CD-R/RW capable.

I'm thinking that this isn't a problem with iTunes; rather, I believe it is a problem with the drivers that Vista has loaded for the drive.

So, does anyone have any insight towards fixing this problem? Can someone who owns an SZ450N or 460N tell me what their drive is listed as in the Vista Device Manager?

Is that your DVD drive? Do all SZ4's have Toshiba drives? Because Vista detects mine as a MATS(H)ITA.

Hopefully these screenshots will help show my problem.

Yes that is my DVD drive. Not sure about other models but I guess it varies from models and manufacture dates etc. But mine is working fine. It's strange that it doesn't work in iTunes only but it does show that the drive is fine.

I just blame iTunes for it since its' still not 100% compatible with Vista at the moment and I had some other problems with it before as well.
