So, I called Sony to ask if the SZ160 really has better battery life...

Sony contacted a product specialist and then called me back and said the only difference between the 120 and the 160 is the carbon fiber casing on the screen...

No difference for battery life, the screen is exactly the same for both.

So, unless someone has better proof, directly from Sony, I'll trust what Sony says !

The sz160 also has led backlighting and they didn't tell you that. They left out a lot of other differences...

I asked specifically about the LED backlighting, and they said both have the same backlighting system...

We have already covered this in the other thread in which multiple people told you that the Premium models have a LED backlight. I appologize that we are all stupid and don't know what we're talking about. All hale the all powerful and all knowing sales drone. As a gesture of good will I'll provide a link to a Sony webpage which proves how stupid we are.

    We're not worthy!

BTW, look for the text that says this:

    White LED Backlight Technology
Light-emitting diode (LED) backlight technology provides a brighter LCD display and a wider color reproduction range. White light is produced by three LEDs with emission wavelengths very close to the red, green and blue primary colors, resulting in more realistic red and green colors. (SZ Premium Only)

Unfortunately Sony reps are full of misinformation. Its sad but those at Sony seem to know less about the products they are selling or supporting than many of the people on these forums. Over the past several months while researching and tracking down a 160 I have been told many different and conflicting things from Sony reps. I would bet if you called again to Sony you would get another answer altogether about the differences.

    OK... what the hell.

    Here is what I wrote:

Here is the response I got:

Besides the fact that "appologize" and "hale" (in this context) are both misspelled, I don't really think that this reply was necessary.

I was stating a fact, and there was not a hint of aggressiveness in what I wrote. I was sharing my information. I read many of those posts, and I wanted to hear what Sony said in response to them.

Was that really necessary, duffyanneal ?

I was too busy trying to get that stupid link fixed to spell check. And don't start with the spell check ****...you'll just open a can of worms.

As I recall you started a thread a few days ago and several people posted links as well as Sony diagrams showing the display differences. Many of us have been checking facts and using the SZ machines for a few weeks now. We know what we're talking about. We gave you information and answered your question. Now you come back after speaking to someone who probably doesn't know their rear end from a hole in the ground and ask us to prove them wrong. We had already given the proof.

First and foremost I'm grouchy tonight. That's not your fault, but if you ask us a question and we give you answers or suggestions at least take them somewhat seriously. Don't start a new thread rehashing the same stuff when you can continue on with the original one. Remember if we wanted to be anal we would just tell you to use the search function.

One last thing to keep in mind. Many of us know that Sony USA is just a store/ reseller. Sony Japan provides the engineering and the goods and spoon feeds Sony USA whatever they want. The people at Sony USA are nothing more than sales drones that read the same stuff that you can find with Google or here if you take a quick look around.

I wasn't trying to be harsh, but it gets old answering the same questions over and over when the answer is sometimes two posts down or just seconds away with the search function. ;)

The SZ120 is a different machine with a different screen altogether. Period. Sony sales reps, bless their hearts, aren't experts on all of their products.

The SZ160/170/180 - the premium ones - are different. Better? Subjective to your taste but I think so. I've seen both in action. The premiums are nicer. You can, in the USA, customize the non-premium.

Alright... it's all good, bro. I just got to this forum... I can see you've been here for 3 years :)

It's true, the people on the forums almost always have better information than the sales drones, but I wanted my information verified.

Maybe the sales reps are being TOLD what to say, since the Premium models are harder to find, so people will settle for the non-Premium models. I was very specific with the guy I spoke to, having read the posts here.

If Columbus and Magellan hadn't tested their info, we might still have maps that say "Here there be dragons" at the edges... :D

I don't know about the SZ120 battery life.
The SZ160 is supposed to last 1 hour extra.

I'm yet to do more than 3.5 hours with my SZ160 ... they advertized 7 hours vs 6hours)

At the store I went to, when I asked the difference between the two, the guy told me:
    -160 has bluetooth
    -160 has 256MB video card
    -160 is lighter.

Well, the 120 also has BT, the 160 only has 64MB of dedicated memory, and 64MB of shared memory

Yeah, those fools also told me one has Bluetooth and the other doesn't...

I had to restrain myself from yelling at them, and I told them that they both had bluetooth, and that the differences go further than that.

My SZ90 won't have bluetooth, but I ordered it that way! :)
