5 hours and 37 minute battery life with full-tilt functions!!!

The SZ is truly the state-of-the-art laptop (for at least this week!)

As for the color scheme of the 160 it is black keyboard with dark drey aluminum and silver touch pad.

Two days of usage and not one problem.

By the way, the 2 programable buttons at the top of the machine are very ingenious.

I would like to the owners of the 120 cooment on battery life to see if there is a difference.

thats amazing, but quiet possible with a 13.3" screen :) as it only has 1 bulb to light the whole LCD.

thats excellent- I think thats even more than sony lists on the website. Clearly you were in endurance mode, but is that w/ the standard battery. And how long is it in 'power-user' mode?

Aer0sense: The SZ160 uses LEDs, not traditional bulbs, and I'm sure there's more than one! :)

Icelox18: He did say "full tilt functions", so that could mean Speed mode...

I am considering getting the SZ, but my main concern is...you guessed it....battery life. On the sonystyle.com website, it lists 6 hours in one place and 4.5 hours in another....this makes me nervous. The other computer I am considering getting is the ThinkPad T60. I am interested in mobility and battery life, but I am leaning towards a 14 inch screen (T60) instead of a 13 inch screen (SZ) if the main difference between the two is less than a pound. (Is the SZ really 4.1 pounds? The T60 is 4.69-5.12 pounds). The T60 battery life is allegedly about 4+ hours , so the SZ will win me over if the battery life is an hour (or so) longer. Any insight for a total computer novice would be really appreciated. Thanks.

No, the SZ premiums are 3.7 pounds. Non premiums are 4.1 pounds.

I tested my SZ120P/B today on stamina mode (with Itunes, AIM, wireless and Bluetooth, virus software, MS Word, and a whole lot of applications in the systems tray running). It lasted about 4 hours. (I'm sure I could get more out of it once I remove some of the programs running in the background tho.) Either way, I think that's awesome with your premium battery life of 5+ hours! I'm assuming I won't get much more than 4.5 hours tops, but we'll see.

From what I understand, there is a problem with the built-in camera and battery drainage? I remember reading that in this forum somewhere but I don't have the time to look for it. Can anyone confirm this for me and have any solutions to resolve this issue? any help would be much appreciated!

BTW...did I say I love this computer??!? Absolutely no problems with heat! Aesthetically beautiful! Wish the screen was like the FE tho....

Question for you...I just picked up an SZ110 and am not happy with the screen quality. It's bright enough - though nowhere near as bright as the FE or even the latest FJ - but there's a faint brown grunge on the entire screen. Very faint, I admit, but there. So, wondering whether the premium offers a really white white...would appreciate hearing your impression. Thanks!

My 5 hour plus was with wireless off most of the time but screen at factory settings, speed/stamina - 50%/50%.

I had the Thinkpad Z60t. My SZ160 (with standard battery) gives me twice the battery life of the Lenovo (with a seven cell battery!).

Another unexpected plus - when I do have my wireless turned on it is faster than any other I have used. I hve no idea as to why.

Oh yeah, one more nice feature in contrast to the very well-built Z60t. At 3.7 lbs. I can stick this into my pouch and hardly know it's there. And of course, the SZ screen is MUCH, MUCH brighter, sharper than the Thinkpads. I do however miss that brilliant key pad of theirs.

I was thinking about reordering my Z when it comes with the core duo in March. Now that I have the SZ160 - forget it.

Very helpful. Were you more partial to the Lenovo Z than the T series (which already has Core Duo)? Did you consider the T60?

What is the difference between the SZ160 and the SZ170?

I am going to have to order the extended battery I guess, but $330 more is hard to swallow on top of the $2050 I already paid. I am barely getting 3 hours with wifi on and the brightness turned up to a decent level. My 700m easily got 5 hours under the same conditions. What to do, what to do...
