I remember seeing somewhere that the SZ160P was upgradable to 4GB of RAM...now that I physically have 4GB in there...the computer is showing only 3GB. The memory is Samsung PC2-5300S. Is it the 5300 that's causing the discrepency or is it really capped at 3GB and I'm just remembering wrong? The memory has been tested by Samsung and it's fine. Oh and I'm running Vista Biz on the laptop =]

    Thanks!
    Jeff

Also...I just did a check with CPU-Z. According to that there is 4GB of memory installed...but Windows is still reporting 3GB.

    well try this first.
open a terminal and run "BCDEDIT /SET PAE ForceEnable"
You will need to run it as an administrator...so you will need to do a runas.
then reboot your system and refresh your WEI

I'll give that a shot. I read some threads about using that command...and there was talk about enabling 4GB RAM support in your BIOS too. Do you know if that pertains to my machine?

I guess its possible if you share video memory - maybe just change the amount you wanted dedicated to it. I doubt though that your notebook is giving your video card a gig of memory (if its integrated).

I would try the command first, otherwise a surefire fix is going 64bit.

Hmmm looks like I'm gonna have to go 64bit OS then, my WEI actually went down .2 points after I refreshed. The 64bit Vista will work fine with my T2400 though? Also...Vista64 is capable of running 32bit apps correct? I know there are some programs out there that specifically don't support Vista64, but for the most part I should be ok?

Thanks for your help, and the command to try out!

32bit operating systems can only recognize ~3.2gb of ram
