    Hi,

I'm planning to upgrade my sz18gp cpu (Core Duo T2400). I've done some research and not sure if i'm getting it right. It seems to me that a core 2 duo (T7600 perhaps?) can be installed on board (even though this sz series was design with core duo). However, i could not find any specific information about the bios (or anything else). Do i need to upgrade the bios? if so, is it simply just download the latest one and flash it on? any information will be greatly appreciated. thanks in advance.

    Jeff

I had a T7200 installed into the SZ18Gp. It will work only when you upgrade to the latest Bio. I had tried the T7600 but it seemed that it is too hot and always restart itself. I do not had this problem with the T7200 but it is quite hot. You do need to change the fan if you fan is quite old.

I have upgraded my CD T2300 to C2D T7200 and it actually runs cooler. Just make sure you clean up old thermal grease, put a thin layer of new one and clean/oil the fan.

    Hi,

thanks for your advice. i downloaded this .exe (PHBSYS-01041231-UN.exe
) from sony site, its the bio update for vista released back in may 2007. would that be ok if i install this after replacing the cpu to t7200? is there any "trick" i should pay attention to? or should i look at the other bios version?? thanks

ps. performance wise, is there much difference after replacing the cpu?

    Regards

Don't expect too much - the change in CPU speed is just slight and that's not the only factor affecting performance. The best speed upgrade was to swap HDD, then to stick more RAM in.
