This is how my SZ premium looks. Is this normal on others' SZ premiums?
Is SZ non-premium display any better?

Mine is uniform if I look at it at the right angle. If I get a little off axis the top or bottom is a little uneven (similar to your picture but not that dark). My corners are not dark like yours.
-
The corners are darker when looking at them from an angle. When looking straight on, the effect disappears. If yours remain dark at all times, from all angles, there may be a problem.
Another thing is that I could swear the screen on mine got "better" after about 10 hours of use. I don't know if this was a burn in or me just getting used to the screen but it seemed like that was the case. -
These "shades" will become more visible as you lower the brightness!
All/most thin display look like this in "single" colour!
"shade" in sz 120's screen shows differently--along the side rather than corners.(as the backlight technology is different) -
Hm, I would like to see a SZ120 photo for comparison.
BTW, "at the right angle" I can watch the screen with less corner shades, but that "right angle" is with the screen wide open (about 120-125º, making the integrated camera useless (screen has to be nearly 90-100º to view yourself in the camera)

Any SZ110/SZ120/SZ140/SZ1M/SZ1HP white screen photo please?
They aren't on stores yet here to compare, and I have to decide this week if I send back my SZ1VP to Sony... -
try for the FE series, you cann't find any "dark" on the screen.
the backlight is more evenly disturbed. -
Actually, my FE has dark bottom corners in the very way shown, but, as pointed out, it pretty much disappears at the correct angle. I checked my old toshiba which has the tosh version of x-brite, and there was a similar effect there- along the sides.

I notice the "shade" on the screen when I pick up my sz premium.
I check the same white screen with other sz premiumssss(one even got a dead spot) ,sz120,TX and FE.
After all, I decide to keep it as weight,performance,... is so good.
That is not too noticeable, as you seldom read on the corners!
moives will be OK too, as the brightness goes up & you are further away from the screen.
if the screen is so important, toshiba (Ultimate TruBrite)& FE (dual lamp)will be the choices! -
I'm coming from a VAIO TR which has a *PERFECT* screen, so the SZ premium screen is a dissapointment.
PD: I want to stay in the ultraportable segment -
may be different point of view?(too focus on the corners)
or my TR2 had been too old?(white not appear to be white enough)
I think my new sz's screen shapness,brightness...... out perform my old TR2! -
Only problem for me was the SZ is not an ultraportable. I also had a TR and was all set to get the SZ till I got my hands on one, it is a REALLY nice machine but at the end of the day it was to big for my needs. I ended up getting another TX. I was going to pass my TX to my wife and keep the SZ. I ended up just getting her a TX.

I noticed the same dark patch problem on my recently acquired Sony Vaio C22 also....
I am taking it to the service center this weekend to see if they can do anything to help
But it's very disappointing to see issues like these on a Vaio as one of the primary reason I chose the Vaio this time was coz I had heard ood thing abt Sony LCDs
SZ1VP (SZ170) uneven display/dark corners. Is this normal?
