I have just upgraded my SZ1VP from SZ1VP from 2.0Ghz Core Duo to Core 2 Duo T7200

Takes only 5-10 mins to install..
Runs on the original SZ1VP BIOS with no problem (not upgraded to new BIOS yet)...I am running XP....can't see any improvement whatsoever (It was running fast anyway)....is my notebook now 64bit ?

Yes, the computer is 64-bit capable now, but unless you have a 64-bit OS and 64-bit programs, then it won't process in 64-bit just yet. The speed difference from going to a T2500 to a T7200 shouldn't be massive, and you will only notice the difference in processor dependant applications.

Well on the bright side if you ever want to run 64 bit XP or Vista, you can on your laptop and it should run pretty well.

Personally I don't think I'll ever put Vista onto my current SZ150. Only way for me to go to Vista is with a new laptop... XP suits me perfectly.

Oh and I also thought about putting a C2D into my Sony laptop, but after a little thinking, there's no benefit really to do it. I don't really play computer games on the laptop and I don't do any processor intensive stuff... so passed on that. However did put a C2D (Merom) into my desktop, overclocks rather nicely.

    how do you upgraded it..?
i believe you have to open the notebook itself?
was it difficult?cos i'm new to this and thinking of upgrading myself.
I need the speed for design and video editing application..i hope it's gonna improve the speed on my SZ28GP.

just open up your vaio, take out of the old cpu, slap the new one in, apply some thermal paste, viola!

add new seagate 160bg or 200gb 7200.2 hd, max out your ram to 2gb and you're set....still not gonna do it for hardcore video editing though

I just slapped the 2.33 T7600 in my SZ260 and it made a nice little difference. I had a T2400 1.83 before. I did the 2gig ram thing 6 months ago. I can't find the 7200.2 Seagate drive anywhere. Is it available yet? Where? I want the 160gb model with G shock. Oh, and the chip runs hot even with Artic Silver compound......Loving this laptop.

MxMOney, how is it different from your previous T2400,Do you use any software that will benefit from it?

Is there any site i can go that has a step by step guide (with picture)to do it?
I want to do it but i'm afraid that i'll destroy my sz.

Hey pplz, I've got a SZ110, i've just bought a 100gb 7200rpm hdd for it (mostly cause the one i got with the SZ is the loudest hard drive ever, ever.) and ive bought 2x 1gb 5300 ram sticks for it. I know the ram on it's own will not be a big upgrade unless I use a million applications at once, but in anyones opinion will upgrading from the T2400 to a T7200 be a big help? or should I wait a year to do that.

It is faster. Everything benefits. A faster hard drive is also important to get the most from the upgrade. Photoshop 9.0. It also multi tasks everything faster.

Google SZ processor upgrade. There are several how to article on the web and on this site. It is a very simple upgrade, no more complicated than upgrading the ram.

    Thanx MxMoney.
how about the battery life?does it improve much?

I've search the forum, but it's japanese. It has few pictures to show the steps but i dont understand what it says even after i tried to translated it using google.

I read in this thread that you need to put thermal paste on it..but i dont see any here: http://translate.google.com/transla...refox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&hs=Pmy

which one would you recommend on upgrading first?
    1. HDD to 7200 rpm
    2. Processor to T7200
    3. RAM to 2 GB

First: RAM (Always first if you have 512MB or less, but otherwise do the hard drive first if you have a 4200RPM).
Second: HDD (unless you needed the hard drive upgrade first, which in that case do the RAM here instead).
Third: Processor (not recommended as the difference will be much less than upgrading the hdd or ram).

I would do the HDD to 7200rpm first, since the SZ comes with 1gig of ram already. If I had only 512mb of ram than I would go to 2 gig upgrade before the hard drive.

The processor is easy to replace. Under your laptop are two panels which can be removed with a small phillips screwdriver. The square panel is where the ram is located. The other panel is where the CPU is. The hard drive is the one that requires the most work to replace since you have to remove the keyboard to access it.

Many people say the processor upgrade does not provide much benefit and that really depends on which processor you have now? In my case I had a 1.8 (Core Duo)32-bit processor with 2 mb L2 cache. My new processor is 1 gig faster at 2.33 4mb L2 cache and 64 bit. The difference is very noticable. I can't comment on battery life as I have only had the processor installed for a few days but I do notice it runs at higher temps. I have 2 gig of ram and haven't done the hard drive upgrade yet. I have always planned on doing all the upgrades at once but I got the ram a couple of months ago and I just got the processor from ebay. The hard drive that I want isn't shipping for another week or two. I am getting the Seagate 7200.2 160gb ST9160823ASG model.

    Good luck..

    thanx MXxMoney.
    great links you've got there..

i've got the T2500 2Ghz core duo processor..upgrading to T7200 2Ghz wont do much different i guess.. or maybe i should go for higher processor?
    hmm..
after few thoughts,i might start to upgrade the ram to 2GB.
then the HDD to 7200 rpm.
processor will be the last one..since there's quad core coming..
i wonder if it's possible to fit into SZ.. :D
anyway..the price of the core2Duo should be cheaper by then..

Quad core for notebooks will not be available for quite a while yet. It also won't be compatible with any of the current systems. Upgrading from a T2500 will not yield much, even if you go to a T7400 or T7600. The best thing to do would be to upgrade to a faster 7200 RPM hard disk and/or get more RAM, like you said.
