All of a sudden the sound on my SZ220 has disappeared. I get a red X by the volume icon in the system tray and when I try to open the mixer, it says "No audio device is installed". However, in the control panel, everything looks good. The Sigmatel audio is shown as working OK. Any ideas?

Did you check and make sure your battery/power profile doesn't have the audio disabled? Under the advanced power saving options, you can elect to enable/disable certain devices under the VAIO advanced power management tab.

When the audio is disabled via the power settings, you'll get that red X over the speaker icon in your system tray.

I checked. Audio shows as enabled for battery & AC. This issue was totally out of the blue.
