    Hello,

I finally figured out what was causing my laptop to be so slow.

It is because of "Plug and Play"!!!

I tried disabling it using msconfig and when I rebooted, it was fast!!

But my network doesn't work anymore along with other things.

    So:

PLEASE HELP: How can I fix the plug and play issue (it's most likely related to the USB drivers, b/c every time I restart it shows up usb device found)

    Thanks

By the way, I checked this:

    "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion DevicePath

The value shoud be %SystemRoot%\Inf and of type REG_EXPAND_SZ."

The types for some other entries are REG_SZ though, should I change all of them to REG_EXPAND _SZ?

I tried the plug and play registry fix and it still didn't work.

    Can anyone help please????

You may want to give Sony Support a call in the meantime. They will be able to help you troubleshoot the issue.

    Good luck.

thats weird, i dont think plug and play would be causing such a serious slow down issue. something else must be the problem as well, you should call up sony like that guy said

OK, so I called India and they couldn't help me.

    Anyone have any ideas?
I'm about to buy the recovery disks, reinstall and sell this laptop.

Have you tried doing a system restore all the way back to the beginning?

I can't do that because I can't access the system restore thing anymore (F11 doesn't work at startup).

BUT: I can see the 6GB partition on the HDD. Is there any way I can use that to restore everything?

I mean the Windows System restore. Have you tried that? Perhaps rolling back a couple of restore points will help.
