Recently, I just bought a large capacity battery from a ebay retailer after the original battery in my sz220 died for no reason. It went from working fine, charging to capacity, and then one day nothing, but that's neither here not there.

My real problem is after I recieved my generic battery I read the very poor instructions which told me to charge it for 14 hours which I thought was a little much but regardless I did as told. When I placed the battery in my computer the battery light on the notebook started flashing very quickly, which is not what happened when the genuine battery was in. However, I figured that it was just new and after the complete 14 hours or so it would be fine.

Now, here's the problem my computer won't start with the battery in. But, I do know that battery is being accepted because if I start the computer with the a/c cord plugged in and then place the battery in, it shows that the battery is in and I can look at how much charge is left. Furthermore, once the battery is in I have a problem with an error message popping up after the battery is inserted claiming that the battery isn't Sony genuine, but having glossed over 10-15 previous threads I know that to be the "ISBMgr.exe" issue. But, I don't feel that that has anything to do with the notebook not starting.

What I want to know is if anyone else has had this problem? Is the battery defective, or do you think after I delete ISBMgr.exe the problem itself will go away.

Well, shorty after posting this I realized that the problem exists (with some people) even after you delete ISBMgr. So, has anyone had any luck, or fixes with the battery not charging, or anyone fixed the problem of the notebook not starting altogether?

Just curious, where was the battery made and what's its capacity (mAh)? If it's not working on your SZ, I'm sure the eBay retailer will allow you to return it.

I decided to buy my SZ1 replacement battery at DSMiller.com after reading a positive review in this thread, and it's working great so far. It's a Hi-Capacity brand OEM-equivalent 7200mAh battery made in Korea. Although it doesn't have a 7800mAh capacity like a genuine SZ extended battery, the difference is negligible and it's only 1/3 of the cost.

I have the same issue with my SZ220 - Battery not present. I thought that the battery died and bought another one, but the problem is still there. I suspect that something happened with the module in laptop which is communicating with battery - BIOS programming issue or hardware issue. The laptop works without battery, but I had to switch off one of the VAIO services that controlling the presence of battery (the service mentioned before - "ISBMgr.exe"), otherwise Windows XP immediately shutting down the laptop to hibernation state... In some conditions (when I starting the laptop without a battery, then connecting the battery and removing the power supply plug) the laptop continue to work on battery, while the battery is not recognizing by Windows XP completely (it shows that the battery is present but shows that charging 100%) and not even by hardware because the battery presence light is still blinking. After some time on battery (5-10 minutes) the laptop then suddenly switching off. So, anybody has any suggestions?
