My DVD drive is missing after I eject a disc. I have to reboot to be able to access the drive. Any one know a fix for this?

    Thanks

Not sure if this will help, but there's a new firmware for the SZ Matsushita DVD drive on http://esupport.sony.com

"Matsushita® UJ-842 DVD Writer Optical Drive Firmware Update Utility - Updates the firmware to version 1.00."

The "version 1.00" is what really bothers me, cause it means the SZ's ship with a non-final or beta version of the DVD drive firmware.

Archie, Thanks for the info but my device is already at firmware version 1.00.

Still look for help fixing this issue. When I eject a disc from my optical drive the drive icon disappears from Windows explorer. If I go into the Windows device manager the device shows as properly installed. I can uninstall the device and then re-scan for new devices and the drive icon will re-appears in the Windows explorer again.

Can any one help me with a fix for this issue.

    I have the Firmware-Version 1.7 on it...
    So you should upgrade it.

    TinyRK,

By chance do you have a link to the Matshita UJ-842D firmware & flash utility?

    Thanks

    Sorry Rex,
I didn't notice that you have the UJ-842D.
    I do have the UJ-8 32D.

Somehow Sony builds slower drives in the Premium series.
