I've spent days trying to get the v270 bluetooth mouse working on my SZ240 with no luck. In fact, I think I made things worse than they were to begin with =) Here's what I tried:

    - with the original Toshiba Bluetooth stack and utility, I got as far as being able to recognize the mouse when doing a "New Connection" but the "Registering HID" phase did not complete.

    - after trying the above a few times and reading some posts in this forum, I decided to uninstall the Toshiba bluetooth stack software and try the Widcomm stack

    - the Widcomm stack installed fine but also did not recognize my bluetooth mouse (the tray icon was permanently red).

    - so I tried to go back to square one: I removed the Widcomm stack and re-installed the latest Toshiba stack (downloaded from sony support website). The installation process said this was successful but the Toshiba bluetooth device no longer appears in the "Network adapters" section and the Toshiba Bluetooth Utility program also does not appear in the Start menu.

Can anyone suggest a way to get this mouse working on my SZ240, or at least a way to get the original Toshiba Bluetooth Utility installed again?

    Thanks!

Update: I used Vaio Recovery to install the original driver and Toshiba utility. I'm now back to the original problem which is:

Bluetooth Utility detects v270 as "Bluetooth Travel Mouse" then times out "Registering a HID device...". Eventually the registration fails. P.S. I know this mouse works because I've used it on a Mac :)

Anyone run into to similar problems when registering the HID?

    Hi Iguana,

Were there any bluetooth drivers which came with the mouse?
I underestand that Logitech's bluetooth drivers are pretty unstable and but it could be worth a try to get the mouse working.

Hi everyone - thanks for the suggestions so far. Amazingly enough, I solved my own problem! Well, actually Sony Tech Support did... I was a little reluctant to call after reading that Sony Tech Support is generally unhelpful but I called anyways. I got my problem resolved in under 5 minutes. Here is the trick for anyone else encountering this issue:

Open the Device Manager and expand the "Human Interface Devices" section. Now using the Bluetooth Utility, try to create a New Connection to your v270 (or other Bluetooth) mouse. While the utility is trying to register an HID, look at the Device Manager window and an item called "Bluetooth HID port from TOSHIBA" should show up (this won't be present if you are not registering the HID). Right click on this item and uninstall it. Then let the Bluetooth Utility continue. It will fail and ask if you want to try again. Say yes and this time, the "Found new hardware" window should appear asking to install the driver for the Bluetooth mouse. Click Next, Finish, and voila - your bluetooth mouse should work! My v270 did :)

Apparently, this is a very common problem with Vaios...the support guy laughed when I asked if he'd seen this before.

Lousy bluetooth drivers for the SZ...

A real shame. As I'm absolutely in love with the SZ series right now.

I don't think that the problem is universal. I use the v270 with an sz120, and the Logitech mouse worked right out of the box -- no additional software installed.
