Hey everyone, I've had my SZ260 for a few weeks now and I did a semi-clean install a few days after I got it.

I'm not sure if this was as a result of the semi-clean install, but my screen brightness has been randomly switching to low on it's own. I've noticed it does it after I've come out of hibernation and/or standby modes. I have all of my screen settings on "no change" so the display brightness should not be changing at all, but it still goes back to low, moments after I brighten it back up. Another thing that happens is sometimes if I plug and unplug the AC adapter the screen will change brightness to low, but again, all the settings are on "no change." It's very random and annoying and I can't seem to figure out a pattern as to why it's doing it. Usually a restart will fix it, until I go into hibernate or standby again. But I have also restarted before and it kept randomly changing brightness back to low. The only way to make sure it doesn't happen is to Shut down, then turn it back on. I was wondering if anyone here has experienced this kind of problem before I try calling sony support?

Also, I noticed that the monitor in the display properties is a "plug and play monitor on Nvidia 7400." I never checked to see what it was before the clean install, so I'm not sure if this is correct or not. Shouldn't it say sony xbrite lcd or something?

    Thanks.

Could it be the "Auto dimmer" on the nvidia display setting is checked? if it is, try unchecking it.

Thanks, so far I think that did it. I guess there's something wrong with that function, since it wasn't working properly. Maybe nvidia will come out with an update.

Can you tell me if my monitor is supposed to be a "plug and play" or is it supposed to be a specific lcd?

    Thanks again.

I think it's fine with the plug and play name. My laptop is the S560 and I didn't see any xbrite name on the display properties.

According to other posts in this forum, the malfunctioning auto-dimmer may be due to problems with the SZ coming out of standby/hibernation.

If you shutdown and restart your SZ, the auto-dimmer should work.
