This may sound a little crazy after all the previously reported problems over spacebars and the like..

I have had no problems for five months with my SZ but, quite suddenly, the 'G' key on my keyboard popped out, followed by the small rubber ring below it. Subsequently, the 'E' key has fallen out. I think there's a possibility it happened because of the heat of the machine (though I would think that CPU autoshutdown would have kicked in before such a thing could happen.

I'm obviously going to have to use the warranty but has this happened to anyone else?

(I was using the machine quite normally and not amidst high ambient temperatures)

i had an old school Vaio B-series, and after about a year, my shift key consistently fell off. it became a real nuisance until i eventually super glued it down. on another occasion, after i purchased my SZ260 i went to Fry's to scope out some of the latest laptops. i noticed that my exact display model has at least 2 keys missing. this did not sit well with me. i'm about to send my laptop in bc i seem to have a problem with the hardware for my sound. it's pretty pathetic how a "top notch" laptop costing well over 2 grand is delicately constructed in a piss poor manner.

I have and old VGN-A160 and the keys fell out about a week ago. Just about two months after the original one year warranty expired.
Luckily, I bought this laptop using American Express and they have extended warranty up to one year. I think MasterCard also have the same program, not sure about Visa.

Seems like keys falling out is a recurring issue.

I got th Repairmaster export option warranty from J&L and although there were initial quanderies over whether the keyboard is actually part of the laptop (?!), I think I should be able to get a repair done.

But for a premium carbon fibre notebook to exhibit a problem I have never encountered on a laptop before (the keyboard on my old Compaq LTE 5000 still works fine!) is truly bizarre. The SZ keyboards have a structural flaw to them which is why those initial units had spacebar problems. The mechanism is very cheap.
