I have recently migrated to Vista and have since been encountering constant problems with my touchpad. For the most times that I start up my computer, my cursor doesn't respond to the touchpad at all. When I do get it to work, the cursor often goes erratic (around the screen, clicking wildly) and after it settles down and allows the touchpad to control it, the tapping and clicking elicits no response.
I'm sure it isn't a virus or malware-related problem. I have updated my Alps driver and I see it running in the Notification Area. Has anyone encountered a similar problem and managed to resolve it?
I'm uncertain whether it is a BIOS, driver, hardware or Microsoft Intellipoint-related problem (I have a MS Notebook Optical Mouse 4000).
