Strange one this. Switcher.exe used to allow me to disable Bluetooth on this sz2xp. Now that option is completely missing from the utility - any ideas ?
Have tried re-install, same issue. This is version 3.5

I have had the same problem come up with my SZ1. No BTselection at all, even though it has been there for ever since I bought this laptop. But other possibly related problem is that I cannot use VAIO Control Center. I wrote this as a reply at Vaio forum in a thread about this issue:
-
Ah, ok, well spotted, getting the same error in Vaio Control Centre as well..
-
I also suffer the issues described above on my SZ5XWN.
VAIO Control Center won't start stating runtime error and BT selection has vanished.
I believe these problems started after a wireless switcher upgrade from VAIO Update Centre although this may be a coincidence.
Neither problem is a deal breaker but I prefer my toys when they're working properly.
Google uncharacteristically is not providing a solution at this time but has led me here for a whinge.
Other than the niggles mentioned, after 6 months I'm very happy with my VAIO.
Regards Vista I think it's a step up from XP. I love the instant search although Leopard looks enticing. I bought the SZ5 thinking I needed it's grunt and MS OS for my CAD work.
Truth is I rarely draw a line on it, at most using CAD viewers to show clients models and drawings. Production work is reserved for the ergonomics of my desktop.
With hindsight a Mac with bootcamp would have done the job. No regrets though.
For a first laptop the VAIO is the perfect compromise between power and portability. I certainly could have got more bang for my buck but the SZ5XWN is a class act, though I can't promise upgrade time won't lead me to the rumoured Apple ultra-portable. -
It seems that there are few of us suffering from this, but indeed there's no solution yet.
I've raised an issue about this to Sony e-support, they have been responding to me but their suggestion basicly is to do a full reinstall of Vista. I am not willing to do this, because I really think there needs to be other kinds of solutions for issues like this than always just reinstall.
Now, lately I have found out that I cannot start Vaio HDD protection application either. It seems to be running in the background, since sometimes when bumping the laptop I see notification of HDD protection beeing activated. But I cannot open the configuration utility at all. -
Still no fixes available yet? How to start debugging this? -
Hi,
I reinstalled the Vaio Control Center application (and verified it has reinstalled) and the Wireless Device Switch application, but no changes.
Thus something else must have changed... Anybody recognizes this poblem and has a better solution than reinstalling the whole OS and other SW on my laptop?

Hello
I have had the same problems: Bluetooth option in Wireless Switch Utility VAIO disappeared, and Control Center do not started. I have solved they by restoring the system to a previous state with the Windows System Restore, as jvp comment.
In my case, I suspect a lot that the problem has been because I have installed "Microsoft .NET Compact Framework v2 SP2". I needed it to install the Windows Mobile 6 emulator.
I have a Sony Vaio VGN-SZ4XN with Vista Bussines.

Not my solution but found it in another forum
"Try this...
http://www.css.ap.sony.com/vaio/downloads/Patches/WLAN/SOAWSU-01181800-UN.exe
My wireless switch utility disappeared as well. I had to install a "newer" version of the switcher utility at the URL above and now it works like a charm...
Give it a try!"
The link did not work directly but I googled 'SOAWSU-01181800-UN.exe' and it brought me to the sony website.
I am going to give it a try and see if it works.
