Hi, I'm having a problem when I have my USB external harddrive plugged in, I can't boot up windows (Windows logo loads but goes into a black screen after). The login screen doesn't show up.

However, the second I unplug my USB External Harddrive the laptop boots into XP Login screen from that black screen. Probably a hardware conflict - any ideas/suggestions?

    Thanks,

    Joey

I think it's more likely that Window is trying to mount the external drive (to read the partitions and bring up the drive letters), but does not manage to do so before logging in.
What is your External Drive ?

It's a seagate 500gb 7200rpm internal drive inside an Ultra Mini 3.5" USB/firewire encasing. *windows also has trouble booting up when my logitech orb webcam is plugged into the usb port.
