I just bought this laptop and know little about Cingular's Edge. I do have a Cingular Smartphone and have the unlimited data plan and have successfully connected to the internet through the phone using bluetooth. Isn't this essentially an edge connection?
My question is can I configure the laptop to connect with the built in edge using my existing unlimited data plan? I hate to pay for another service if the speed isn't any faster.
I paid $1,599.00 for this laptop through costco.com Is there a version without edge that still has bluetooth that will save me some money?
Thanks.

You can use your existing data plan by placing your sim card in the laptop. The Costco price is very good and I doubt you will find a better price on a non edge model.

You can use your existing Cingular smartphone to create a modem connection. It will have good EDGE speeds, though not as fast ans the embedded EDGE WAN card. You need to know though, that while this is possible, it is not legal. Cingular does not allow "tethering" unless you have their PC Connect plan. With the PC Connect you can tether away. It is expensive. There is huge debate as to whether or not Cingular can determin if you are tethering illegaly. The biggest issue is that if you do it legally, the connection is faster. If not, it works, though slower, and you may be detected and billed accordingly. The Siera Wireless Aircard is a 3G card that can pe inserted into your computer and will give your computer access to Cingulars HSDPA network. This is much faster. I have NO IDEA why these chips and network access are not included with our Sony's

Sony and Cingular Edge do NOT work well together!!! I would not even bother with it!!!

Hmmm...works great for me. Check out the Cingular Forums. Hundreds of Smartphone and PPC users use this combination successfully.

Sorry for asking not answering.
I am considering to get this one from costco.com either.
How was quality? any bad pixels?
please some review/experience for purchasing.
Thanks in advance -
So basically which service is cheaper and more cost effective? Using smarthpone service or embedded option on SZ? After all, cost is everything.

The price is the same. At present Cingular can't tell whether you're tethering or not. If you only use occassional data then I would not suggest paying for the $79 unlimited plan. When I travel I simply place my sim in the laptop when needed. When in broadband areas I also use my Motorola V3xx via bluetooth for high speed connection. It works both ways.
