I dont understand why all of the SZ3xx models labelled "Windows Vista Premium Ready" while the SZ1xx and SZ2xx labelled: "Windows Vista Capable" only, considering they are not much different in terms of configuration????

    To make it short ......

Vista Premium ready means your PC can run ALL of the vista's apps, (ie: glass fuction) .

Vista Capable means your PC can install and run vista but it probally can't use some apps that vista has to offer.

This could simply mean the differ of a video card, of ram.

    CORRECT ME IF I"M WRONG.

I kind of wonder if it is because of the larger amount of RAM the SZ3xx's come with by default.

That and from what I've heard, Microsoft had a limitation on what date manufacturers could put Vista Premium Ready stickers on their machines.

i think the primary difference is due to the 64bit c2d vs the 32bit c1d.
the performance differences between the sz2xx and sz3xx are minor, so i dont think performance alone would justify the tag.

if i recall correctly, the entry level vista package can run on 32 bit cpus, whereas premium MUST operate on a 64 bit cpu.

It seems that the Windows Xp installed by Sony on the SZ3xx is 32 bit???

The primary difference and a right to use "Windows Vista Premium Ready" sticker is a video card: SZ3 has a Nvidia 7400 with 128 MB dedicated RAM. SZ2 had/has a Nvidia 7400 with 64MB dedicated RAM only.

Never used vista yet (tried to get the beta but no serial will work).

My question is, What are the video requirements to use the glass feature?

Will my ATI radeon Xpress 1100 be enough?

My prossesor is 64 bit. I'm using a aspire 5102

I don't see where they say 64 MB dedicated RAM on the SZ2XX vs 128 on the SZ3XX. It shows:

SZ2XX: 128MB (NVIDIA GeForce™ Go 7400) and 128MB dynamically allocated shared (RAM/Video) memory (Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950)

SZ3XX: 128MB (NVIDIA GeForce Go 7400) and 128MB (dynamically allocated shared RAM/Video memory) (Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950)

which is the same thing.. correct me if i'm wrong.

......Anybody knows XP installed on SZ3xx is 32-bit or 64-bit version, considering an advantage of Merom is supporting 64-Bit?

Correct!. But anyway, according to MS, the 128MB (NVIDIA® GeForce Go 7400) is just minimum for Vista premium ready.

Does the new Sony C Series laptops come with 64MB or 128MB for the Go 7400 version?

That's a good question; unless I'm missing it, all three C series models still listed on the SonyStyle site say they have Intel GMA950 graphics, but don't mention the Go 7400. I had read previously that the higher end version would have the Go 7400 in it, but I must be missing it.

All of the C Series listed on the european website is classed as "Premium Ready". How can this be considering you need 64MB dedicated as minimum, and the 950 only has dedicated as 32MB???

    Check this site out: http://vista.vaio-link.com/vaiovista.html?lang=en

Yeah. I don't know, all I can think is that they must have some incorrect information there somewhere. In particular, I'm almost positive they said the black model (which costs more) had Go7400, so I'm thinking that perhaps they just don't have the correct specs for every model or something.

According to the sony site my Sz1vp is premium ready, but the sticker on it just says capable. This is apparently because there were no premium ready stickers until quite recently (presumably some sort of marketing ploy to make you replace your 'puter even if you don't really need to)

I wouldn't question if my laptop is ready or capable, but more on the question how sony is going to handle things when customers want to/need to do a clean install of a certain version of Vista.

Yes. The entire question of how Sony will handle the number of users and questions fielded from people trying to clean install Vista on their SZ and then gat all of the Sony dongles to work will be staggering. I am actually surprised Sony has not already started a support site focusing on the Vista transition. I would be willing to bet right now that the place to be after Vista is released is right here on this forum. (With your non upgraded computer as you are many hours and many cups of coffee into upgrading your "Vista" machine.)

Its in the 64 Bit technology. the advanced vista or "premium" as its stated does in fact require the 64 bit technology of the 3XX series. The 2XX series ins a 32 bit processor.

If you go to the microsoft website you will find a program that you can download on your computer that will run tests to tell you what your computer will handle. The link for the windows Vista advisor test software is found if you click on the link below...

    http://www.microsoft.com/windowsvista/getready/upgradeadvisor/default.mspx

The video processors in the 2 and 3 series SZ computers are in fact the same.

    I hope this info helps!!
