Hi there, I have a new SZ4 (SZ4VWN/X) on Vista. Whenever I lock my computer (via or WIN+L or it starts the screensaver) and unlock it, the wireless connection disconnects and I have to manually go refresh the connection list - then it automatically reconnects.
I can reproduce this issue everytime, and power saving is NOT turned on for the wireless connection. Anyone else experience this?

Hey syl, thanks for the link. The problem I see is very different. I don't suspend nor do I standby, I just WIN+L to lock the screen, and log back on again. This can happen within a few seconds so the wireless card shouldn't be going into power saving. Regardless, I tried disabling the "allow power saving" setting but it still disconnects. -

yeah I have this problem too!!
I have a Sony Vaio VGN-FZ18M and no matter how long I leave the laptop after locking by Win + L, screensaver or Ctrl Alt Del, the internet connection disconnects and automatically reconnects
the strangest thing is that it disconnects only after I log back in, MSN is still running as I log back in and then the connection drops to local only, then goes completely off and reconnects itself, there is no need for this do you think it might be specifically a sony problem?
I have checked the power settings and internet settings and nothing seems out of order someone please help it's so annoying!!! -
Does your WLAN light turn off and then on? Sony's Wireless Switch Utility is a piece of junk and has a habit of messing with this stuff. Make sure Bluetooth/WiFi are both enabled in Wireless Switch Utility and then use SmartWi to disable Bluetooth, etc.

No, just the icon in the bottom right
I just managed to solve this Vaio have released a new update so just install it and all should be fine -
If its dropping to local access only first and given when its happening sounds like this update should fix your problem:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/933872
problems like dhcp issues can also be caused by a router that could be a bit more vista compatible, if its still happening after that update is installed set a static ip address and test it again. If that fixed the problem check your router manufacturers web site for a firmware update - although its a good idea to get the latest firmware anyway. -
ditch vista
SZ4 - wireless - Vista - screen lock
