    Hi,

I've had a new Vaio SZ4VWN for a few days now and noticed from time to time it will run really slowly, for example when Windows explorer is open for 10 mins or more without any activity the HD status light starts flickering like mad and everything starts locking up (non responsive errors) when I try to use it again. I had a Vaio SZ3 running XP with a very similar spec to this one (which got trashed) and starting up Photoshop CS2 and other larger applications can take up to 3-4 times longer on the new machine. Is Vista really hogging that many new resources?

It maybe something obvious for anyone here that knows Vista or Vaio's... the HD size is 160 gig, I've partitioned an extra drive to hold all my files at 63 Gig (G drive) leaving 76 Gig for the C drive which has about 35 free. To speed Vista up I've turned off a load of the transparency and other window tweening effects, some of the non-critical Service processes and start-up programs.

Could this be a driver issue or a problem with the way I’ve configured Vista – perhaps not leaving enough space on the C drive?

I’m running Vista Business with 2 gigs ram and have installed all the latest Updates from MS. Also my Vista system rating is 3.2.

    Thanks for your help,

I upgraded to Vista on mine, and it runs flawlessly.

Must be some issue with your OS. I recomend you begin with doing a recovery to see if that sorts it.

Before you start getting the system customized to your needs, I recomend a reinstallation. Get every driver in, make everything work. Then if you can, make an image.

    Then, start customize.

If you have issues straight from the beginning, It can be a system issue.

    So, it really depends.
~ Have you customized your system to your needs? Then troubleshoot.
~ If the system is fresh, reinstall it. You wont loose anything by doing it anyways.

If you have some more information for us, please post away.
Check running processes maybe? ctrl+alt+esc.. Sort after CPU time and see what is taking up your performance.
