I just got a new SZ48GN and I can see faint diagonal lines on the display that flash on and off at random times. They are most easily visible on the desktop background and in the aero glass menu bar. You need to really focus in on the screen to see them but now i've noticed it its really distracting.

I'm not sure if it's a driver issue, a vista issue or the display itself but i can reproduce it easily with iTunes if i move the window horizontally. If you click and drag the window horizontally the menu bar has these lines appear diagonal top left to bottom right and they disappear when you release the mouse.

Has anyone else noticed this? I dont like my chances for getting it fixed here in australia - sony au dont even have drivers on thier site.

EDIT: The lines i'm describing look similar to the background of this site.

I just got my SZ48GN/C too 5 days now. After logging in to windows using your password or finger over bio, the screen will flash and this thin diagonal lines appear for half a second less. even if you change resolution, it happens too.

Also, this jitter-white lines appear mostly on the bottom half-screen. I have no idea if this is natural as i have used a VAIO GRT390 too (my previous toy) which to do not behave like this. Anyone else got this experience?

mine is GeForce Go7400 Version 5.72.22.41.19 Dated 11/22/2006 but it's from microsoft. the one you mentioned is from the moders. is it safe enough. the driver for the Go7400 by the mods was last modified May 2006... hmm... let me see if i will take the risks...

don't worry, there is no risk by updating a video driver, you can always go back or install the older driver again.

The diagonal lines are caused by something physical, or how the screen was manufactured; it has nothing to do with the driver. Try viewing the screen outdoors and reflect it off the sunlight. You can almost see the very faint lines.

Bogart - can you see them as well?

I think you may be right as i can make them appear just by moving my head left to right and when i stay still they are not as visible. They may be part of the xbrite coating similar to the annoying grey sparkle on new matte screens like I saw on my macbook pro.

Yes, I see them too sometimes, but like you, I only see them while I'm viewing the screen at different positions. If my head is still, I don't notice them. For instance, when I look at this picture and quickly move my head towards the screen I can see the faint lines.

thank you very much. i have now installed the driver (97.58, Version 7.15.10.9759, Dated 1/13/2007) and the screen refresh-flicker lines now has been disappeared!!! :)

I do upgrade driver as usual through control panel but Windows Vista always says that it's up to date (base on the official online driver bank). And now, having downloaded the mod version, it's perfectly working. thanks for the info and link!!
