What is the expected battery life of a Vaio SZ4 series laptop (VGN SZ450NC is the only SZ4 available in Canada?!). Using:
    -Windows Vista
    -Wifi ON
    -in stamina and performance modes

I have read only about 1 hour!?

How much weight does the extended battery add?

    That defenately sounds wrong!
I can have my SZ3VWP/X on Vista with WLAN, average brightness, speed mode and average use for at least 2 hours, AT LEAST!

One hour is way to little, which ever usage.

I have the SZ460, these are my observations, on standard SONY battery

WWAN off on all these, just WLAN on, BT off, no 3D or photoshop or illustrator rendering.....basically just office, browsing, acrobat reader, IM, MSN, etc....

    CPU fan highest/everything on/screen at 4-5 brightness/over 50% of ram loaded/32 bit video
    <2:30

    CPU fan adaptive/everything on/screen at 3-4 brightness/over 50% of ram loaded/32 bit video
    <3:00

    CPU fan 1/DVD off/iLINK off/screen at 3 brightness/over 50% of ram loaded/16 bit video
    <3:45

    CPU fan 1/DVD off/iLINK off/LAN off/Audio off/screen at 2/over 50% of ram loaded/16 bit video
    around 4:30

    1hr - rubbish!

    My setting:

    Brightness - 8/8 (Full)
Stamina Mode - Power Save Profile
    Wi-Fi - ON

    59% Battery life remaining / 2:31hrs!

When fully charged - just under 4hrs! That's with standard battery. :)

Wow, sounds like our 2.0 GHz Core2Duo and 160GB is doing nothing but robbing the precious battery power :(

Seriously though, 3.5 hours compared to 1 is quite substantial. Sure the extra 2megs of L2 cache use some battery power, but definitely not that much. Are you sure the people who claim 1hour aren't using everything on max (particularly the 7400) or are using a refurb/old battery?

Don't get me wrong, 1 hour of battery life is definately short and could have been a old/defective battery. But I think getting an extra 1 hour of battery life with a slower CPU, smaller HD is a huge difference.

I know that this thread is quite old, but Im updating my results here so that it may help someone looking for info.

I have SZ483N/C with the normal battery. I get around 3.5hrs with WiFi on 100% of the times, in STAMINA mode. In SPEED mode I get around 2 hours. Definitely not bad!
