Just bought it, maybe should've waited for the santa rosa but anyways, did not have the choice.

A quick question. Eventhough I set all power settings as neccesary (this is my 3rd Vaio) the fan keeps going on and on. I checked the performance via the task manager but it seems that everything is running on a low level.

What do you think is the solution? It runs on vista.

I have some vague memory of someone with a similiar issue.

First of all I would advise you to check the temperature. If the temperature is around 50ish when idle, that is "OK" (well, I think it is high, but my own opinion).

If not > replace thermal paste.

Second, check the VAIO software. One of the applications is able to control the fan speed and noise level. If this software is not running correctly you might experience this issue.

I suppose one of the more experienced guys will come up with a solution if my information is incorrect.
