I wanted to buy an extra power adapter and I was really surprised to know the ridiculous prices Sony charges.

I want to know if I would be damaging the battery or the charging circuit if I use cheap Chinese imitations that are available for a fraction of what Sony charges? Anyone used these power adapters?

Well it couldnt hurt to do a little research on the brand first but i've been using a kensington on an old toshiba since the adapter for it stopped working. It comes with 2 different power settings and 10 different sized heads! Needless to say it will continue to be usefull for a long time, as long as i have a loptop\laptop s :)

But the voltage / ampere settings will be different for different brands, wont it damage the battery or the charging unit? 10 different heads is great, but I think each laptop will have different power ratings...Im just scared about damaging the battery or charging circuits

I think the battery will be fine once its lithium ion (Li-ion), and most are. It should be fairly easy to find a suitable adapter.. mine has two power settings 14-17volts and 17-21 volts which should cover most laptops.
