i was thinking about upgrading the ram in my vaio from 2gb to 4gb. from what ive gathered the Intel 945PM chipset is capable of supporting a max. of 4gb RAM, although i have also read on these forums that it's only 3gb. If it is indeed 3gb max. i presume that i will have to install 1x 1gb and 1x2gb to achieve 3gb and would therefore lose out dual channel. would i see a performance boost if this were the case? i want to install windows 7 x64 in the near future. any help in clarifying this matter would be great. thanks.

I have ordered 2GB PC2-5300 for my SZ440N with pretty much the same thinking.
I will try it out with 1 an 2 GB un-balanced configuration.. but in Win 7 x86 mode. If it does not work well.. then my 2GB card will go to Samsung NC10 netbook.. just to justify the RAM purchase to my wife!

i went out and just bought 2x 2gb sticks of samsung memory. bios reads 3.2gb and is being reported as 3.12 in windows xp x86. its ok. i figure this way at least it will run in dual channel. altogether cost me about 80 bucks or so, which i hope isnt too bad.
