In that case is it possible for me to upgrade to 3 gigs of ram? Also, if I'm not wrong, Sony down clocks memory from 667mhz to 222mhz for maintaining system temps. Now if I were to replace both rams in the laptop with corsair 5300 (667mhz), will the same happen to that as well?

Yes you can upgrade to 3GB. I know they down clock the 600 series to 667MHZ(When using 800MHZ RAM) but I'm not sure about your model.

My model comes with a 5300 module - originally clocked at 667 Mhz but Sony for some very odd reasons has got it down clocked at 333 Mhz. :s

Is there anything that I can do about it?

    It's not downclocked to 333. It'd DDR2 RAM. 333 x 2 = 667.

Ah - okay - I didn't think of it that way. Any ideas if I can put a faster RAM in this notebook - or will I need to go with the 667Mhz one?

You can install faster RAM but it will still run at the same speed (533Mhz)
