    Hi people.

I have fallen in to the trap of deciding whether to get the Dell XPS M1210 or the SZ4MN/B.

I guess they are VERY similar in terms of performance but I haven't managed to find much about how long the Sony's battery last using standard (or the larger capacity battery pack) under light usage such as browsing online using Wi-fi? Cause that's what I mainly do most of the times.

How long does the battery last? And does the switchable graphics card option increase much battery time?

Thank you for all your help.

(I did decide for the m1210 but saw this beatiful Sony that I'm very tempted to get over the Dell, even though its faster and cheaper compared to the Sony one.)

Really? That's a surprise, I was playing around in the shop today for ages, found lots of settings in Vista that you don't have in XP. But I suppose that Aero interface uses more energy. But I loved it! Was in the shop for hours couldn't decide whether to get it or not.

It depends on how you have things set up. I have an SZ140 (not premium, XP) and an SZ460N (premium, Vista Business). Vista is very picky about it's power profiles but when you get it set it's not too bad. I think we get about 20-30 more minutes on the XP system. On the SZ460N set to very dim display, stamina mode, and wireless on I get 3+ hours on standard battery. Not stellar, but enough for me.

What's the difference between the SZ460N and the SZ4MN/b model?

3+ is quite a bit off from the claimed 5hrs on the sticker. =/ Be better with the 7200mH battery?

Yeah you have to use SOny's settings. Turn off drive etc. to get longer life. Lasts fairly long when you have everything disabled :p

:) :) :) Under equal settings - brighter display, speed (not stamina mode) - 1 hour more with XP. But i like Aero interface in Vista :)

Hm - that's annoying. Do you have the larger capacity battery? So how long does it last under Vista then?

    3~ hours with standard battery?

What?! That's not very good man. Thought it would get a bit more out of that. =/ More under Stamina mode? Like I said - battery is very important to me.

With SZ1 but under XP 3,5 hours in Speed mode. Vista take too much power i think. In Stamina mode under XP you can take 1 to 1,5 hours more.

Yes, i know :) If you need more time working on battery i think that Vista is not a good choice. Because i had 3,5 hours with SZ1XP/C under XP Pro in Speed mode vs 2 hours with SZ450N/C under Vista Business in Speed mode.
Under XP if you use Stamina mode you will have 1 to 1,5 hours more. I didnt try Vista in Stamina mode yet
