    1. Does the encryption program that comes with the SZ encrypt the whole hard drive or just specific files and folders?
    2. How well (such as speed and performance) does that encryption program work?
    3. Is BitLocker a better solution?
    4. Is the only way to get BitLocker on a new SZ 4xx to order it with Vista Business (or Home Premium) and pay the Microsoft Upgrade fee of approximately $139 and then repartition the hard drive using the Ultimate Extras utility? Seems like something that should be an option if they want to sell to business customers (or anyone who wants to protect their personal information).

Bitlocker is only available on Vista Ultimate. Also with Vista Ultimate you will have an option to install the Bitlocker Prep Tool which will help you automaticaly setup your computer to enable Bitlocker.

I am unfamilure of the 'encryption' program with the SZ model so I cannot give an answer

    Yes. Or Vista Enterprise.

My understanding is that Sony does not offer Vista Ultimate as an option so the only way to get it is by the $139 (plus tax) Microsoft upgrade fee.
