    I ended up getting an asus W7S, instead of a SZ series, I have an Vaio S5 before and wanted an SZ, but with the SZ5 not looking too good i choose this asus, and oh my god its a good notebook.

    Yeah, I also considered W7S but the only thing holding me back was the battery life. How are you finding it?

    Some things that would make me want to upgrade (assuming faster CPU, bigger hard drive and more memory were also in the deal):

    * Faster video card
    * Digital audio output
    * Gigabit LAN and DVI (or HDMI) output on the main unit instead of just via the docking station (which I do own)
    * 802.11n WiFi
    * Higher quality webcam
    * Some multimedia hotkeys
    * Somewhat higher resolution screen (like the TX)

    And if I'm dreaming:
    * Blu-ray drive

    They've been using the Centrino Duo badging since the first Napa-based machines came out. It essentially is used to refer to all Core Duo and Core 2 Duo based systems.

    Not that I don't believe updated SZ's have to be coming sometime soon, but I don't think this means anything.

    Yep...unfortunately.

    The Sony site did not change at all. I've been looking at it everyday hoping for good news. None 'til now. :(

    Well, its inevitable that Sony has to update the SZ now. First we had the XPSM1330 as a pretty direct competitor, and now there's the similar Asus U3, which is even more of a competitor (especially with the ability to turn off the dedicated graphics, which until now has been an SZ-exclusive feature). .

    I think its only a matter of time.

    I'm hoping it might have the new keyboard from the TZ series as well - if they're even using it on the CR's, I can't imagine why they wouldn't use it on the SZ as well.

    No, the Centrino Duo badge is the Santa Rosa version.

    These are the old ones. The new Santa Rosa badge is on the SZ overview page, but the old badges are on each individual models page.

    Hrmm. Well, leave it to Intel to make things as confusing as possible.

    There are in fact two Centrino Duo badges:

    http://www.intel.com/products/centrino/compare.htm

    It seems like the version that represents Santa Rosa is the one with the colored Centrino and without the little blue/purple flower petal things.

    Seriously though Intel, wtf? It's like they went out of their way to make it confusing.

    Frankly, Sony's use of it on the SZ page is confusing then, because the SZ they are advertising there isn't Santa Rosa.

    I'd blame Intel though, not Sony - seems pretty easy to use the "wrong" Centrino Duo logo.

    Hmmmm....now I see what you were talking about Jayayess1190. Well, I've been looking at the Sony site but not at this detail :p.

    zadillo, according to some posts (sorry, but I don't remember who wrote that), it's possible to have new SZ models available up to the last week of this month.

    Like you said, it's a matter of time... since Dell has already shown its competitor. But, as far as I know, Asus U3 doesn't have an optical drive and I think it will use LV processors.

    Yeah, I mentioned the U3 more because I think it's a competitor the SZ series in other ways - specifically the size, weight and switchable dedicated graphics (considering the SZ is the only other major laptop I' know of with this feature, it seems like Asus must have had the SZ in mind).

    But yeah, the lack of optical drive would seem to be a weakness of the U3 compared to the SZ or XPS M1330 (unless its significantly thinner/lighter - I don't recall seeing the details).

    They say there was a party "to celebrate the new VAIO notebook." But, WHICH ONE?

    Anyways, NYC will hold an event tomorrow, July 17th (thanks TSC1224 for finding that out!).

    Let's see what will have...

    Cool, nice to see verification of switchable X3100/GeForce 8400M GS graphics.

    Interesting that there's no picture yet. It would be cool if it gets a bit of a design refresh (perhaps the keyboard style from the new TZ and CR)

    Yea, if the keyboard is updated, I may very well consider cancelling my Dell M1330 order if they don't get it shipped before the SZ6 is released.

    I am quite disappointed:

    1. Seems heavier than the SZ4 series and less slim.
    2. Without a HMDI
    3. NO blue ray disc support.
    4. Still DDR2-533 memory.
    5. Only Vista B version available, no U version for customize

    8400M Gs is what I am waiting, now I am wondering how fast it is than the 7400 go besides support DX10.
