Does anyone have the Sony hi-capacity battery for the SZ6 (VGPBPL9)? How much extra battery life do you obtain from it? It looks like a thicker battery - does it protrude a lot from the case?

I have a 20% off accessories coupon from sony style that I am considering using towards this battery. However, it is still quite expensive ($350 in Canada!)

i bought one but haven't used it yet. i had the hi-cap batt for my sz160p and i get about double of the standard cap batt. i onyl use it for international plane rides to asia as the batter is too big and bulky to use on a daily basis, IMO

How much does the heavy duty SZ battery protrude? It seems like its negligible. Does anyone have a pic of the SZ with this battery installed?

I'm also in Canada and just bought a SZ650...also considering the large battery but haven't done enough testing with the standard battery. The standard seems to give around 4hrs on Max Battery w/speed (Nvidia graphics) setting. That's quite good...so not sure the extended battery is all that worth it (unless I get one of those old Air Canada planes without power in the seats on a transatlantic flight!!!)

I got my sz680 with the hi cap battery and havent really tested time yet..

but as for protrusion I think it is annoying.
The battery bulges out and down and has its own rubber feet as the entire system sits on it.

It protrudes back about 7/8" and down about 1/2"

It is indeed an eyesore but most Thinkpads have the extended battery that protrudes like that, at least we have the choice. Do you have a port replicator? I'm wondering what it looks like when docked, or if indeed it does dock with the extended battery? It may not look at hideous.

Thanks for the pics. Well, it may not be the most esthetic but it isnt that bad. And on the plus side, it will allow for better cooling! :)

I have a port replicator and it does have a rounded depression right behind where the laptop sits. I didnt know why they built that in, but looking at this battery shape it makes sense now.

They have the same set up with the TZ. After using the higher capacity battery in it for awhile now, I've come not to care about it poking out the back.

I like that it raises the notebook, even if just a bit. It makes typing easier and does let the notebook stay cooler.
