The downgrade disks for the TZ and the SZ600 series notebooks are now available for order from Sony.
https://www.qdirect.net/Sony/Terms.aspx
If you look a little around Sony's site you'll also find a code to get the shipping and handling fees waived. (Hint: it's R43T8)
edit.
Here's the current page where you can always find the most recent promo code. The code changes weekly, so always go here to find the latest code.

rep+ for the free promo code
-
It's in my post. Just highlight the "hint" section.
-
Awesome, thanks.
-
Interesting, just a couple of months ago, Sony USA gave absolutely no support to downgrading to XP. Another blow to Vista.
Thanks for reconsidering Sony.
-
I can't find anything about this on Sony's site. Who are qdirect.net and Q Media?
-
Ouch. So will this disk have drivers preinstalled? As sz61xn/c and sz680 should be virtually the same thing do you think that the downgrade disk for the 680 would work on my 61xn/c and if so would someone be willing to iso their downgrade disk?
-
I ordered it today. thanks
-
They are the fulfilling company. Sony hired them out to distribute the disks.
-
Q Media also provided the Vista Upgrade disks a few months back. -
Great find, nixon, code worked like a charm!
-
They shipp only for US and Canada right?
-
Thanks, code worked, and everything went smoothly.
-
Thanks very much for the info, code worked perfectly. Already have my SZ-650N/C running dual boot Vista and XP thanks to all those here at Notebook Review who contributed. You've made this great piece of hardware much more friendly
-
Thanks, I went ahead and ordered one though I won't actually use it. I use the corp edition plus WGA crack so I never have to deal with anyone at Microsoft.
-
So we're still able to use our Vista key?
-
I'm sure it will. It does say 600 series SZ's so you shouldn't have any problems.
-
Is XP fully functional on the SZ600 series now? I noticed they advise some warning on the Sony support website.
-
Says code no longer valid...
-
I get the same answer, but the disks are only 10$ because all you pay is S&H.
I don't like my Vista Business really and am wondering if XP Pro would be a good "upgrade" for me? -
It certainly wouldn't hurt to "upgrade" to XP. There's a reason now its being offered again vs Vista, its faster, nets more battery life, more lean and mean, with many of the niceties of Vista available as third-party downloads.
-
Does anyone get an error message when they try to track their order with the order number they receive from the confirmation email? It says:
"There was an error:
Could not find stored procedure 'usp_DoesUserOwnOrder'." -
Yup, same here.
-
Just to clarify this to me:
1. I get the xpp cd (I'm not eligible to this cd through mail as I'm not a resident nor bought my sz in U.S, so I get it from somewhere else *cough*someone please .iso it *cough*)
2. Phone Microsoft and say I want to downgrade, and get a license key for xpp, this shouldn't be a problem, as this is stated by their vista business/ultimate downgrade policy
3. Now will I be able to dual boot xpp/vista with these keys or will the Microsoft rep disable the key on the bottom of the comp and only after phoning back and wanting to upgrade to Vista again I can get a working vista key again, and thus again disabling my newly accquired xpp key? In other words can I run only 1 license key at a time?
Hope this makes any sense.. Any comment would be helpful and again a clean .iso from that cd would be fabulous. -
Each downgrade set will probably have it's own individual XP license key and though I have not heard of Microsoft handing out XP keys just because it may be what they do. You could dual boot the machine all you wanted as long has you had an official license key for both Vista and XP.
-
What if I bought SZ in Canada and i live in Canada, does this work for me as well?
-
"This offer is good only in the U.S. for purchasers of Sony VAIO TZ100 and SZ600 series computers. See the list of specific models on the ordering page."
However there is an option to choose Canada as your resident country so I'm not sure. -
Has anyone received their disk yet? Or is this gonna be waiting game like it was with the Vista Upgrade disks? On the bright side the order lookup finally works. My status is "back" so I'm thinking back ordered...?
-
Anyone got a promo code for this for the free shipping?
Edit: Well I found the new code, and that does not work either, but its listed on the site as S6F9N -
I haven't received mine yet either, yet I can now see my order status.
-
So S6F9N promo does work now.. i just ordered mine
-
...the hell... everytime I try to put in the codes it says the code is invalid. Both of them. Anyone else?
-
The new code is M19H2
-
Guess I was quick enough this time. Latest code worked. Thanks!
-
have not received mine yet.. its been almost 3 weeks
-
They had some issues with getting the label for the disk to the distributor. They should be shipping out this week from what I know.

Would this SZ640N downgrade disk work on my SZ440N (shipped w/ vista business from the factory)? If not, how would I go about getting the right downgrade for my system? Thanks...
-
^^ Well, I checked the Sony site and found drivers for XP for the SZ440
http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu-list.pl?mdl=VGNSZ440N®ion_id=1 -
Im from NY as well, how do you know you're getting it tomorrow? Is your order trackable? Because mine isn't, it just says ship under status tab
-
Thanks for the reply. Yes, I saw that the SZ4 XP drivers/software has been up for a while. I just wanted to make sure that this downgrade install would work on my SZ440N, since that's not one of the choices when you go to order.
-
I just received my copy right now i will post pictures as soon as i get a chance comes shipped fedex standard overnight comes in 2 dvds
