I just got a Sony SZ at Best Buy for $1899. They are on sale this week, and unfortunately, it's going back.

It has what I'd call banding or what I'd call like alternating bright and dark areas under the screen. How strange.

Then I have a piece of dust/lint that is about 0.5 cm long, like a blond hair trapped underneath. I'm sure knowing the guys at Best buy, they'll say what are you talking about and make me pay a restocking fee.

FWIW, I noticed this banding on the display model too, but I figured it was from people closing the screen over and over again and flexing the screen.

    It sort of looks like:

! ! ! ! along the bottom of the screen, with the ! = brighter areas.....like a candles are being put along the bottom of the screen. I didn't go looking for this problem. I noticed it when I brought it home.

Those are the individual LEDs that light up the display.

Unfortunately, 5 hr old SZ's screen just cracked. That little strand of dust/lint was a hairline crack underneath the plastic, I guess in the glass itself. If you just breathe on it it extends the length of the screen now. So I"ll be heading over for a replacement.
