Hello everyone, I have a major problem...

I was installing drivers from Sony's esupport site using the download Taxi, and I installed the BIOS update driver, restarted my laptop, and it starts, I hear some clicking noise, but nothing loads...Vista does not load, the BIOS doesnt even load or display

I'm pretty sure this is because of the BIOS driver I installed which I shouldnt have done...but now my laptop will not start

How do I fix this problem?

You don't fix this prob. yourself IMHO.. I think BIOS battery removal or BIOS resetting (if possible ?) is useless in this issue...

    Call Sony service...

Thanks for responding...so I take it that there is nothing I can do about this...I just have to send it to Sony? I contacted them and they said I will have to send it in...they emailed me a form with a special number that I'm just supposed to show to FedEx/Kinkos and they will package it up and send it to Sony...

Has anyone went through this before? I'm just concerned about time it will take to send, fix, receive....potential data loss (not too worried about)...they do ask for my Windows password though...

I started a thread about Sony's repair process a month ago, and basically I decided to go with on site warranty because I was afraid the problem would not be fixed and would just get a scratched up laptop returned. Here is the thread to see what everyone had to say: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=188176&highlight=sony+repair

Thanks for the link to the thread Sponsi...I see that in the end you paid $190 for on-site service.

I bought my SZ650N/C from a Sony Style store and got a 4-year warranty with it but I'm not sure if it covers on-site or not...how do I find out if I do, and if there is that on-site service offered in my area?

I am also very picky like you, about the littlest things like a millimeter of a scratch/etc. This laptop is not even two months old.

You can respond here or private message me. Thanks :)

    Just sent you a PM.

If anyone else cares to know, when you purchased your extended warranty you should have received a booklet, "The Sony Extended Service plan" on the back it will list the type of warranty you chose. As an example, mine says "Extended Service 3 Year Notebook On site with Accidental Damage Protection."

To find out if there is a on site technician in your area just call the phone number provided which is 1866 374 0134 and they will let you know.
