I've found a place that'll sell me the 650 US version for $1916 delivered. They have it in stock

Should I do it or wait for the 680?

I want to wait until mine ships (they only have 10 left and I don't get screwed in the shuffle.) That should be tomorrow. After which, yes, I'll be happy to.

Final: $1900, delivered for the Sony VGN-SZ650NC USA model.

I've googled around a bit this evening, and I have found a place that sells it for 1871.00$. There is no mention of shipping charges however, and the company is called Prestige Camera... I personally have never heard of it.

    http://www.prestigecamera.com/product~id~snvgnsz650nc.htm

it does say in stock however.

Sorry for replying to my own reply, but I googled some more and it seems this company is really terrible and to avoid at all costs. Sorry for even mentioning it.

I already posted to beware of PrestigeCamera in another thread. It's a non-USA model (everything in chinese and no warranty) not to mention the shipping is $98. They say if you want the USA model it's $2250.

The Japanese Sony website has a promotion on both RAM and CPU upgrades for their current SZ, non-Santa Rosa notebook that runs until the 31st of August. Based on that, I would assume that not even Japan will see a Santa Rosa platform SZ until after August.

So why there are stores selling the SZ6 (like Amazon, J&R and this another one cited by MonsterMaxx) and no news at sonystyle site??

MonsterMaxx, when will you have it (considering it'll ship today)?

I got it from Terry at J&R who is an authorized Sony dealer, 1-800-426-6027 extension #1054. You will need to speak with him and he works tomorrow (Saturday) 9-6 eastern.
Tell him Robin sent you and he said he'll do the same deal, the VGN-SZ650NC USA model, $1900 shipped.
    Mine shipped today. :D

With a tracking number a criminal could redirect the package.

Never, Ever post something like that in an open forum.

ha ha ha, I just called Amex to see if I got the 5% cash back on this, and yup, sure did. So my actual cost was $1805. I think I'm going to like this AMEX card.

As I understand it, it's 5% cash back on all transactions.
Not completely sure. It's a new card for me (I only got it to get 10% off on the Lenovo T61P.)

I called them to ask and they said, yes I get 5% off the $1900 transaction. So I assume it just happens without me having to do anything.

Maybe someone else knows how this works better than I.
It's the Amex Blue and is supposed to get 5% cash back on all transactions. That's all I know.

i think you should read the fine print. i have that card and it's *up to* 5% off. hardly anything qualifies for the full 5%. you may even have to carry the balance to get the full amount. but there are special promotional periods and such. but in any event if you pay it off every month it's still "free money". and amex gives u lots of perks and such.

all this cashback and perks come with a cost to someone though. if you ever wonder why lots of places don't take amex, it's cause of the nice perks and huge charges to the merchants. there's no such thing as a free lunch.

    hmm
like i said, I don't know for sure, but I did call and ask the rep if the $1900 I just spent got 5% off and she said it did. Then again, I am in the 'introductory period' maybe that's why.

    I guess we'll see.

First, vicarious means "through another person" or substitutionary, not whatever you had in mind.

Secondly, from my experience giving out a tracking number to others still would make it very unlikely your package would be rerouted. There are no tools on the UPS webpage which will allow you to redirect a package using just the tracking number alone. If there were such a thing it would likely require some kind of verification anyway.

That said, thanks for the heads up on the J&R pricing. I had an order thru J&R about the same time as you but my sales rep quoted me $1950+shipping. I called him back after reading your post and was able to get the additional $50 off plus a bag.

umm, "vicariously", I know what it means, and used it appropriatly. Or at least, used it in the way I meant.

With the tracking number a criminal 'could' call UPS and redirect over the phone. It would not be difficult at all if you know what to say. Never put stuff like tracking numbers, SSNs, VINs, License plates, birthdays, etc on a public forum. It's just asking for trouble.

    A bag? what bag?
I'm thinking I might like a sleeve for it.

Is that a Dell 2407 in your picture? If it is, can you see if you can hookup the SZ to the 2407. Also, could you also supply the Windows Experience Index.

    Thanks in advance.

Yes, I'll check all that out. Yes, I'm planning a review.

At this point, I'm still waiting for Vista's first boot. It's taking forever, been at it 20 minutes now.

I wonder if what's taking so long is installing all kinds of crapware.

OMG there's a ton of crapware. 700mb of ram in use just to get booted

Unfortunatly no reinstall disks, actually no disks at all :(

    22GB of space used on C, 2 partitions, 1st is 7GB, 2nd is 142GB

This is a pet peeve for all computer mfgrs, why the frick do they sell you a 'business computer' (Vista buisness) and bog the thing down with so much garbage?
I mean, OK, you can put a menu on there with the option to install this stuff, that would be fine. But to **** up the machine for everyone? Fricking nutz.

Now fully booted, no user launched programs, 920MB of ram in use
    That's a little ridiculous.
