After the computer goes to sleep, the brightness control from the function key no longer works, the level bar comes up, but it does not change level. this happens both when plugged in and on battery. When i go into power options, i can change the brightness, but its alot more convenient if i could do it through the function key. Now if i restart the computer, it works fine, this only happens just after sleeping.

Hey I just got my sz680 this week and I have the same problem! You are not alone my friend. Unfortunately, I don't know the solution if there is one
-
I'm having the same problem, haven't found a solution either.
-
Same problem here! Also, noticed same problem with friend's 640..
-
forward your issues to sony please!
-
i chatted with some techs from sony, what a waste of time, ill keep trying to get someone with a little computer knowledge, but till then, has anyone found a solution yet? or been able to get a response from sony about this? does anyone have a SX6 without that problem?
-
anyone have an idea?
-
Try enabling "Hybrid sleep" in the power menu.
-
try to Adjust the lcd Brightness on the Vaio power management on the power menu. manually assign or set it both on battery or plug in!!
-
Yeah I think I did try manually setting it the other day... I believe it does work. It's just the whole point of the Fn adjustment is to do it on the fly. It's such a hassle to bring up the manual setting bar. Also, it's very disappointing to drop 2G on a laptop and not have all the features work. (Man, I scrapped and scrounged so much to afford this laptop)
-
I have this problem on my 650 as well. It seems to only happen when in "stamina" mode, not in "speed" mode.
I also have a problem of Vista not prompting me for a password when resuming from sleep, again only in "stamina" mode. -
Hmm.. I've been in stamina mode also. I'll have to go back to speed mode and test it. If this is the case, maybe it has something to do with the X3100 driver.
As for not prompting for password when resuming, I fixed that on my 680 by going to the settings and disabling password and clicking okay, then enabling password again and clicking okay. That seemed to have fixed it. But I've been in stamina since then... so I'll have to see if it remains fixed after going to speed and then back down to stamina. -
yeah, i can manually change it through viao power management, but i would rather have the luxury of using the FN keys... its weird that it only does this after going to sleep mode, once i restart, it works fine. ill try it with the speed mode soon.

i'm having this problem also -- any solutions yet?

I haven't been able to find a solution either. Except of course not putting it to sleep
-
Man.. this is crappy..
No solution yet?
My notebook's brightness wont go more or less than 2 bars on stamina. Anything to do with some drivers? -
no solution here either, and sony support wasnt helpful at all
-
Update the drivers from Intels site. You may get an error saying something to the effect of "Get your drivers from your manufacturer." If you go to your Temp dir while the error is still on the screen, the files will still be extracted, just manually update them from device manager.
Also, try using Hybrid Sleep instead of just Sleep. -
How to initiate hybrid sleep?
Any link for the drivers?
Thanks a ton! -
i turned on hybrid sleep, no difference, not sure which intel drivers you are talking bout either.
-
This is an annoying issue
-
So my non-functioning brightness FN key had migrated to the NVIDIA side as well.
I reinstalled the Event services and it started working again but then it wouldnt work at all on the Stamina side.
Reinstalled there too and now works as before with just sleep problem on Stamina side only.
The only way I have found to make this easier to deal with is make a shortcut on the desktop for the Windows mobility center found in Control panel that contains brightness and power profile and such.
At least then it is easy to access the brightness control. -
Surprisingly, a new BIOS update was released today which resolves this problem. link
Use Universal Extractor if you run into any model verification errors. -
I found a reply on this issue from microsoft:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;929249&SD=SONY -
would it just be better to wait until the update comes stateside? -
Is that bios update for the asian models only?
WIll that work with the american sz650?
i contacted sony about this issue and talk to a few representatives, they transferred me up one tier level. All they did with tell me to reinstalled the sony shared and sony utilit, which i did. But it made the comp worse. i lost my bluetooth driver my external monitor won't connect anymore. Good thing i made a restore point before following their nonsense -
that bios update worked great for my sz680
-
so i am chatting the incompetent so called sony analyst right now regarding this issue.
His response?
"i'm sorry, there is no such known issue with this notebook. I suggest that you reinstall the sony notebook utilities to resolve this issue."
is he retarded? so what the hell was i trying to explain to him? no such issue then why am i talking to him in the first place? Maybe if more ppl complain sony will give us an answer.
i think we all deserve it for the money we spent -
just updated my sz650 with no apparent problems.
-
After spending 1 hr and 17 minutes with sony support and being transferred multiple times, i finally got an answer from sony.
The finally support guy filed a complaint that he told me will be addressed hopefully in less than one month by the development team. Lets have our fingers crossed.
I encouraged ppl that have this issue to call in if you have the time. The more complaints the faster they will address this issue. -
