I've had my SZ680 for about two weeks and there are some markings and scratches on the cover just from light regular use. I assume the scratches came from being in my laptop bag (Samsonite Black Label) since I don't put anything on top of my laptop obviously. The scratches are not extremely noticeable but if you look at it at an angle it is very obvious.

Are you guys getting scratches too?

None so far, but I baby the heck out of all my toys - whether it's $2000 laptops, $2500 guitars or anything else that I tend not to want to wear out too quickly. If anything I think I'll scratch the palmrests or the outside corners of the laptop from normal use and/or zipping it up in a sleeve (I need to get a zipper-less one, Sony's has a zipper)

One thing that I'm annoyed more about than the little fine scratches are the oil and fingerprint spots on the screen...but how they get there, I'll never know. I assume that they are from closing the lid and coming off the palmrests, but I clean off the screen and palmrests all the time and never touch the screen (it really, really does bug me) so I'm at a loss at this point...but it's nothing I can't live with, better than the alternative of not having my SZ.

They are actually more like scuff marks or scrapes.

these doesn't look like scuff mark from "light use".

it looks like scuff mark from prolong vibration that your laptop has experienced. most likely scenarios: leaving your bag in the baggage compartment during flight, or on the car / bus during a bumpy ride, etc.

The scuff marks are actually not as bad as in the picture. They are not visible straight on, you need to view it at an angle with the light to see them. The flash makes it more noticeable.

Yes I think they are from being in my laptop bag, and possibly while in the overhead baggage compartment on flights.

Pretty annoying - I had the S170 for 3 years and never got scuff marks or scratches like these.

I keep my laptop in flight overhead compartment quite regularly, but i never got these scratches.
I use a case logic backpack which has plenty of cushion.

I feel so bad for you. Hang in there, the first one is always the hardest.

I dont think it is the palmrest as the oil on my palmrest does not rub off on my screen. But the oily palmrest is what annoys me the most and it does not easily wipe away either. And when I decided to remove those stickers, they left behind the sticky residue that cant be taken off by sheer force.

I cleaned it with a moist cloth and the sticky residue was gone.
