    Hey everyone,

Just bought an sz680 about a week ago and am loving it so far.

I do note what people are saying about the flex of the screen -- thankfully I"m satisfied with my screen and the purchase in gneral.

However, I had some questions about 720p playback on the laptop. I was wondering if other people have tried this and what their experiences have been.

Currently only viewing the videos on the laptop screen but i hope to have it eventually hooked up to a dell 2407 and want to make sure the laptop can handle the higher resolutions.

I noticed some stuttering with some 720p clips that are x264 encoded (when I'm playing the videos in speed mode). I was wondering if anyone had any tips on how to get a smoother framerate.

Also, when I looked at my WEI i was really disappointed to see that the nvidia and intel cards have almost the same score (the intel was a 3.4, and my nvidia is a 3.5). The rest of my marks are between 4.5 and 4.9.

For HD-playback of video's encoded with x264 I'd suggest you use the CCCP pack:

    http://www.cccp-project.net/wiki/index.php?title=Main_Page#Latest_CCCP_.28aka._Download_Here.21.29

And then for even better decoding of x264 you could try use CoreAVC as your x264 decoder instead of ffdshow which comes with CCCP, they even recommend this at CCCP themselves but the only reason they did not include it in the pack is because CoreAVC is not freeware whereas the rest of the codecs used in the package are.

    http://www.cccp-project.net/wiki/index.php?title=FAQ#Using_Different_Decoders

Actually this is a pack I'd recommend to anybody over other packs like K-Lite, Nimo, etc., which are bloated:

    http://www.cccp-project.net/wiki/index.php?title=FAQ#Why_Should_I_Use_the_CCCP.3F

Hope this info was a little useful ;-)

I will be testing this out on my SZ when it arrives on Thursday (ETA). Curious as to how 1080p playability will be.

Seconded. I've been satisfied with it for years.

    Any comments on PowerDVD ultra?

This suite is the first and only commercial package to support HD (HD-DVD and BluRay) playback, so it must have excellent CODECs.

Sorry to push this topic to the top again,

but first off -- thanks for the suggestions

i always thought ffdshow was codec-god (esp since it could play almost every format from that one program)
    my current codec config:
    ffdshow
    haali splitter

... and that's it, everything else is what came installed

i'm anti installing the packs because almost always there is unnecessary installed -- are there other codecs that you would seriously recommend?

Re: PowerDVD ultra and codecs -- i don't agree that just cuz it is commercial that it is the best (unless you were being sarcastic and i missed it)

2nd off -- 1080p on the 680 -- that's more pixels than the lcd displays

Thirdly -- I just bought an HD DVD player (xbox 360) which will soon be hacked and usb'd to my sz680 -- let's see if the nvidia can handle it!

btw -- if you guys are interested slickdeals has a good deal (8 hd dvds plus xbox 360 player for $180)

Oh and one more thing -- anyone know if the DVI port that is on the docking station is HDCP compatible (or for that matter if the graphics card supports HDCP)?

It has already been mentioned, but all you need is CoreAVC to play your videos smoothly. Google it for more information.

Ok so I installed CCCP and CoreAVC

after juggling around a lot of different packs and installs it seemed like the best combination

however I used the CCCPi program and found that I have 146 codecs installed

I was wondering if anyone has ever tried to trim this number down by unregistering dll's and if so what is the minimal number of codecs necessary to keep my system working (i.e. could I uninstall all of them and just install CCCP and CoreAVC and be fine?)

    Thanks

PS Let me know how the 1080p playback goes.
