It looks like Sony may be upgrading their entire notebook line soon.

The links to Amazon don't work, but if you search for SZ770 on Google you'll turn up quite a few hits from shopping search engines.

Nice catch -- I really regret my SZ 650 N/C purchase from this summer. It was really disappointing. Let's see if Sony finally upgrades the physical design of the PC.

That's great! How big of a difference in performance will the 6mb L2 cache and the functional 4 gigs of ram make?
The release of the SZ7 can't be more than a month away.. -
After doing a bit of research, it looks like Sony will be selling some of the SZ7 notebooks with Vista Home Premium and some with Vista Business. Techonweb has models and prices listed, but there are very few specifications. Something that surprised me is that the SZ791 will apparently come with 4GB of RAM. It seems like a 250GB hard drive is standard across all the models (except the lowest end configured SZ730) too, so it's probably the 250GB 5400RPM Western Digital.
According to JR.com it still comes with the 8400M GS and 64MB VRAM, and it still uses Sprint WWAN.

Nice finds, so they brought back the x30? I don't believe the 600 series had one did it? It took Sony what 2 years to upgrade the video card in the previous SZ's so no big surprise their keeping the 8400 GS. Since everything on my 650 can be upgraded to match a 700 series, I don't think I'll purchase one. Maybe if the look differed I would consider it. -

From the specs of the new SZ7's it seems that Sony is moving away from using the hybrid hard drive of some of the SZ6's...although I know the SZ691 did not have hybrid hard drive.

if they redesgined the sz, for example the keyboard, fan noises, diff gpu and etc., i think sony would introduce a new model name? instead of calling it the sz?

Still no Blu-Ray drive. Big disappointment
If Sony really want to push Blu-Ray into the market, they should slip Blu-Ray drives into their sub 4 pound notebooks. I know Blu-Ray would make the notebook more expensive, but Sony could make the Blu-Ray drive as an option. -

Jayayess1190 Waiting on Intel Cannonlake
The SZ750 has a T8100, slight downgrade from the T7500, but you get a 250GB hard drive instead.

Will there be any non LED screen SZ's? Maybe on the SZ730? And Sony took away the hybrid hard drives. Seems like every new Penryn notebook from all manufacturers have gigantic hard drives.

When Sony is expected to start shipping the new SZ7? I am seriously thinking of replacing my current SZ491N/X with this new SZ791N/X as soon as it becomes available at Amazon. Do you think i should expect big performance change if upgrade to this SZ7 with the T9300 CPU and 4GB of memory?

According to Monstronix, the 13.3-inch Sony VAIO VGN-SZ730E/C and VGN-SZ750N/C notebooks also feature the 45nm Intel Core 2 Duo T8100. The VAIO VGN-SZ760N/C has the T8300 processor at 2.4GHz, while the higher-end VGN-SZ770N/C and VGNSZ791N/X utilize the already mentioned T9300. The leaked VGN-SZ7 models will ship with a 200GB to 250GB hard drive, and 2GB, 3GB and 4GB of main memory. These laptops have “RazorThin” LCD panels with LED backlighting. The prices range from $1,678 to $2,468.
The Intel Core 2 Duo Mobile 45nm processors are claimed to provide a longer battery life, better performance, and cooler operation than the previous generation of 65nm Core 2 Duos, codenamed “Merom”. The “Penryns” are designed for the “Santa Rosa Refresh” platform, which will additionally enable a use of an optional third-party chip for hardware decoding of high definition multimedia content.
The “Penryn” and the “Santa Rosa Refresh” will be officially launched in January 2008. -
will they utilize 800mhz ram yet?!?!?

hdmi would be nice...
personally, I wish their card was more focused on Max resolution instead of fps and what not in gaming... I really want to run a 2560horiz res monitor but can't over dvi on this thing, even w/ the dock... need dual link =/ and a better card.
SZ7 series on the way?
