With 15% off coupon, I paid only $905 (including tax) for this unit at sonystyle.com. It is a refurbished unit but looks like a brand new one. No sign of use at all. Also came with one year express ship service plan (for free).

I bought this two weeks ago and it works fine, but I am still not sure that my purchase was a good decision, since I've just found that there is a new "Z" series available at $1250 with coupon.

Should I return this and go to Z? I have 30 days for return. Can anyone give me any piece of advice?

you can also take a look at the SR, it's exactly same size as your SZ780 but with newer specs on it, nothing huge but the price is also very decent. that if you are looking for the latest model lineup, cause otherwise your SZ is a great laptop !

you won't get the same CPU with the Z, it will be the weakest one at 1250$. plus the Z has a smaller screen with a higher resolution, 2 things that will make your text on the screen really smaller. but for the same performance the Z is much more expensive. you might get a better battery life with a 2.0 Z..

I have both, the Z and the SR, and I spend all my time on the SR: bigger screen/font, bigger keyboard (the Z made me type slow, when the SR is great at this). I am sure you will get used to the Z keyboard, but myself I also have the screen problem.

FWIW, the Sony Outlet is offering an additional 15% through EOY, so you can get a pretty good deal on the Z. For example, I just grabbed this sweet thing for $1,194 out-the-door:

    Model: VGN-Z590C
    Display: LCD 13.1" (XBRITE-DuraView™ ;)
    Memory: 3 GB DDR3-SDRAM (DDR3-1066, 2GBx1 + 1GBx1)
Hard_Drive: 200 GB SATA Hard Disk Drive [7200 rpm]
    Optical_Disc_Drive: DVD +/- R DL / DVD +/- RW / DVD-RAM Drive
    Battery: Standard Battery (BPS12)
OS: Microsoft® Windows Vista® Business with Service Pack 1
    Pre-installed_Software: Microsoft® Office 2007 Basic
    Video_Software: Video Plus
    Processor: Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor P9500 (2.53GHz)

Edit: forgot to mention that they have some of these on clearance -- they are not refurbs.
