    Hi,
i have an sz791, and plan on buying a new tv for my bedroom; i am looking at a 40 or so inch lcd or plasma to watch satelite TV, DVD's, and hopefully hook my SZ upto in order to use it, if ind the screen to small for all day....surf the web on it, listen to music, excel sheets, not much media stuff, maybe some movies.
how would you guys recommend going about this, will my sz be able to put out good enough resolution so that it will be clear and legible on a large lcd or plasma, which do you recommend for this purpose.
i was going to either put the sony docking station under the tv and plug it into one of the inputs and use a wireless mouse and keyboard and work like that, does this make sense.
the sony made VGPPRSZ1 dock, gives me one dvi...will this suffice, will i be able to watch HD media from my pc on the monitor, what about music?
any help would be greatly appreciated.
    thanks
    a lot

Use the DVI and headphone jack on the laptop to either HDMI or DVI on the TV plus composite audio input.

    thanks
as far as i know my laptop only has a vga built-in and dvi is only built into the docking station...but i guess hdmi would be best, no?
are there any docking stations for the sz that have hdmi ports?
also, is it dumb to plug a dvi to hdmi plug into the hdmi socket on the sony docking station...will my picture quality diminish, any set-backs?
    thanks

When I had my VAIO FE-790 CTO, it only has the following TV-Output: S-Video and VGA. I customized my FE because I wish to upgrade the video card to nVidia Go 7600 GT (I'm quite sure), not sure how this compares with the SZ nVidia.

Anywhoo, S-Video was of course out of the question for any HD activity thus I connected my FE to my Samsung Plasma FPT5084 (50in, 1080p) and it was able to output 1080p amazingly well.

I haven't tried this yet on my SZ-780 CTO as I'm still messing with clean-installation lol but I do hope this helps and will keep you updated ASAP.

the docking stations of SZ doesn't carry HDMI output. Yes you can plug a converter from DVI to HDMI, or you can simply buy a HDMI to DVI cable. The picture quality will not degrade, as hdmi and dvi carry the same digital video signal.

    hi okay thanks
so the dock is really necessary, in order to give me a dvi out, as my computer itslef only has vga.
is it dumb to use a big tv as a full time monitor when i am docked, over a regular 24 inch or desktop computer monitor?
    thanks a lot
i was going to buy a dvi to hdmi plug and the docking station to hook it up to a HD tv.
    THANKS

if it's a 1080p plasma, u get a full 1920x1080; if it's a 720p plasma, the resolution is 1280x720. HOWEVER, you may use 1080i resolution with a 720p television, although 720p would still look alot better in terms of quality and stuff.
