    Alright, so which is which:

which models of the SZ have NVIDIA GeForce Go 7400 with 128MB Dedicated Memory and which models of the SZ have NVIDIA GeForce Go 7400 with 256MB Dedicated Memory? I'm really confused because sonystyle.com is inconsistant. Also, is there a way you can find out on your own SZ if there's 128MB or 256MB of dedicated memory? Thanks! :)

throguh my knowledge, the SZ does not have dedicated memory nor does the FE. Its runnign Turbo Cache which should be a shared memory technology.
My SZ max is 128 shared

All SZ models have 128 dedicated to the 7400 chipset. Where you get the extra 128, for a total of 256, is dependant on the amount of system RAM you have installed. IIRC, the break point is 1GB ram for the resulting 256MB video RAM.

Turbocache is indeed Shared Memory. But the SZ has 128MB dedicated memory and 128MB shared memory if you have enough RAM.

I'll put in my vot for:

The SZ series all use the same video setup. 128M dedicated on the 7400, w/up to an extra 128M available by using turbo-cache to suck a little system memory and bandwidth. Then there is the Intel integrated graphics that uses up to, I think 128M.

I have a SZ160, with Windows, the 7400 appears as having 128MB memory.

However, with the Linux driver, it shows as 64MB dedicated and 64MB with turbocache: 128MB total.

I have 1GB of RAM on my vaio, I've never seen it reporting 256MB of video RAM, unlike what Sony's brochures claim

Well I have 2gigs in my Unit. And this is what System Information gives me under displays (I still say that its not the available ram you have that gives you 256MB of video ram, I think there are two cards that Sony offers.

Theres only one card. It also depends on what drivers you use. Some drivers don't enable turbocache which in my case, the reason why it doesnt show the 256mb.

ati mobile cards also work the same way. certain drivers have different effectrs when it comes to the hyper memory.

I just o/clocked and put the latest drivers on mine...downloading 3dmark05...

with default drivers and not overclocked I got 1939...so will post the latest marks in an hour or so.

@ foxy - the 3dmark software automatically sets it to your native resolution while doing the tests - so in SZ or FE's case its 1280x800.
