It would help, but personally for my tz130n I'd rather get a ssd for $400 from samsung. Are you looking to improve boot up time ?.

well the ssd are to pricey right now but the 1.8 5400 rpm is cheaper and would be a diffinite boost over th stock on plus ssd storage capcity is a littile to small for my liking

Interesting. I can't figure out the connector type from the available info.

I believe there are two connector options for the 1.8" HDDs: A pin connector and a ZIF (ribbon cable) connector.

Anyone know which connector Samsung uses?

Samsung uses ZIF connector, same as the Toshiba HDD in our TZ.

Do you think we can use the expresscard ssd flash drives ? I saw 16gb models going for less than $200. Wonder if we can boot up on those and keep our 4200rpm drives.

I might consider it for my TXN15. I am pretty happy with the laptop, but more room will help. Right now I have 15 GB free, but I like to put movies on HDD for my travels. Installing it might be a little risky, I never opened a perfectly fine working laptop.

Are you proficient in opening up laptops or did you follow a guide? I'm a full newbie at dissassembling a notebook, killed one of my laptops trying it so I'm tramautized by the experience, :(

followed the guide plus i opened my sz before that to upgrade the hard drive so in total I opened like three VAIOS with the tz theres a total of 9 screws at the bottom the hard ones are the front three they have a plastic covering on them make sure you put a cloth over rhe flat head when you pry them off so it doesnt leave any marks

You talked me in to it DanyBui81. I will hold you responsible for the outcome. I am ordering the HDD. :D
I did some minor repairs on Sony laptops, but that was 3 years ago. I also was able to fix cars (10+ years ago) :(
If you don't do it all the time or don't get trained there is no way to keep up with technology.

good luck - it's not too difficult.

I have taken UX totally apart and put them back, it's still working perfectly. Like what Dany said, just be super organised with the screws/parts.

Half year passed. Any update on this? Does the hard drive work on TZ or TX?
