But, sandy bridge will lack the ability to OC using SetFSB.

According notebookcheck 5450 perform on average 3776 point under 3Dmark06 vs. 6502 for GT 330M. As 9300gs perfrom around 1900 points I guess Sandy Bridge is not (yet, because it is an early product that might not be finalized) faster than GT 330M.

the gt in the 330m is underclocked

according to notebookcheck, the z's 330m's clock rate is the same as a 325m, it also performs ~22% lower on vantage compared to a normal 330m, so if i lower 3dmark06's score by 22% (not sure if i can even do this), then that would put it's score at ~5.1k

i also read that the SB integrated gpu that performs similar to a 5450 is also the "single core" version, and a more powerful dual core version is expected (and perhaps more cores) later on

if a single core performs at 3776, i wonder how the dual core will perform and if it'll get close to the 5.1k of the z's 330m

if it even performs close to the z's 330m, then there is no longer a point to the switchable graphics in the z, it'll be interesting how sony handles this

As GT 425M perform on average 6825 points, and assuming a GT430M will perform 10 to 15% better (as 330M compared to 325M) it will be close to 7500 points (and still 6000 points with -22% from an underclock similar to the one referred above).
It might be clever to upgrade the dedicated chip in vaio Z and to maintained switchable graphics... (but to improve cooling too...)

    Why?

They still need a reference clock, so there should still be a clock generator that will be programmable with setfsb.

^The clock generator is in the CPU itself now.

SB is irrelevant to the current generation of Z. SB will require a major system redesign, and if Sony elects to keep the switchable graphics I'm sure it would see a big upgrade as well.

Keep in mind every time Intel shows off new IGP solutions they always say they'll rival discrete parts....and they never do. I'm not holding my breath.
