We have 3 new SZ450N/C's at the office, all with docking stations and 22" flat screens. We all love using dual monitors for the first time.
Is there any way to save the settings, so that we do not have to go into the preferences every morning and reset everything?

    Thanks!

    Terry

I don't think there is no other way around.

I was watching this thread hoping the answer surfaced. I have been using the docking station for almost a year and I have to right click the desktop > Properties > Settings > and check the box that says extend. There is an FN button that supposed to activate an external display but it hasn't worked for me either.

I'm using the Samsung 52" LCD as my monitor but because of the different diagonal ratios, I have to go through more complicated procedures everytime I use it. I don't think the docking is capable of detecting the diagonal ratio of the external monitor.

I use my VAIO as my main PC at work via a SONY docking station too, I had similar issues in the beginning, but then, I make some changes and all works fine for me now. I suggest you guys try these and it might save you a lot of hassles to tune the settings every morning. I m using a Dell 20" Wide UltraSharp LCD with my docking station (I think it is the 2005FPW) via DVI cable.

I found out the VAIO is not able to switch to external monitor in STAMINA mode, but it will recognize the DVI external monitor after windows loaded up in SPEED MODE. Or I think the INTEL card does not detect external monitor by itself.

For setting it up the first time, you still need to treak the settings and resolutions once and then your VAIO should recognize the external Monitor everytime windows loaded assuming you do the following.

Every morning after I docked my VAIO notebook and I will switch to SPEED before I start it up, and once I started up and logged in your windows (when you can see the desktop), then the VAIO will switch to DVI external monitor output automatically, and I usually select HIGH PERFORMANCE power saving scheme (which I set doing nothing when the lid closes) and I will close the lid on my VAIO and start my daily work.

VAIO might not detect your external monitor sometimes (very rare) when windows loaded, most of the time when you close the lid on your VAIO and it will switch to DVI out automatically. Remember to switch to HIGH PERFORMANCE power plan before you close the lid, otherwise it will put the VAIO to sleep.

So, when I m not using my VAIO with docking station/external monitor, I usually switch it to STAMINA mode and it will work just fine for me. It may sounds more complicated than it is, you just have to get used to it.

If you have no DVI input on your external monitor, I am afraid you have to keep treaking the settings every morning still.

Thnks for the reply, but it is the dual monitor setting that has to be changed every morning. We are having no problem with the DVI monitor being recognized.
It is the setting for which monitor is the primary and which is left and right that has to be done each day.

Oops! sorry, I don't have experiences with a dual monitors setup. I thought you meant to recognize an external monitor.....

Well almost related but my SZ4 doesn't remember my dual screen setting (Notebook+VGA) either. So annoying have to change it everytime. The resolution, refresh rate and position.

Tried the Intel settings and the Windows Display menu - just won't remember it.

Try the NVIDIA Speed mode, it detects the DVI out and I have have both screens up with correct resolutions everytime. At lease before I close my laptop lid

Don't really want to go with that option cause then I have to restart laptop each time cause I switch from mobile/desktop quite often - so I keep mine on STAMINA and Hibernate - hardly ever shut down.

Just wish it would remember it like on my Aspire5120WLMi with X1400 grahics card.
