    Hi All...

Checked out the S560P at Comp USA yesterday...weeks after having checked out the S460P. I specifically was looking for differences in heat and I wanted to see how the new mouse buttons felt. I knew I would have no opportunity with a floor model to test graphics performance or the like. I have to say that the 560P seems qualitatively cooler than the 460. I felt around the right palmrest and under the right side....and athough it was a little warm....I have to say that the S460 floor model under ambient conditions was down right hot. The mouse buttons although I'm not used to them actually felt nice and I'm sure I'll get used to them quickly. Considering that the 560 upgrades the processor and the graphics card to the next level....I'm surprised at how much cooler it felt....and this with a unit that was not undervolted. Screen as always is the best feature on here combined with the weight. Any more questions you'd like to know if you haven't already checked it out yourself....feel free to ask.

Just curious, wouldn't it be best to test the heat difference when pushing the grpahics card? That is when you are going to get the most heat?

The S560 that I tried out still had heat issues. The palmrest was hot enough to cause me to be annoyed. It's not burning hot but I didn't notice any difference between my S560 and S4x0. The harddrive is located directly underneath that area..that is what is causing the heat issue. Since it's an SATA drive I couldn't swap out the drive with one of my spare drives to see if the issue was just related to the Fujitsu drives (both of my S's had the identical Fujitsu drive). The fan was quieter on the S560 though.

I don't own the S560...I just played with it at a Comp USA store. I had no utilities with me that would have allowed me to run intensive graphics to see how the heat was and what the fan did. But i can tell you qualitatively....I noticed a significant heat reduction in comparison to the 460 under the same ambient conditions.

Does the screen have the dark edges? If it is an all white or other light colored background, do the edges seem dimmer than the rest of the screen? I wish they would fix this problem.

I just returned a S560P to CompUSA. The battery rattle was driving me crazy. I had read about it before hand but assumed it wouldn't be a big deal. I also found that even though the black cover looks cool, it shows fingerprints galore.

There's no excuse for battery rattle in an $1899.00 computer.

Don't you have to pay a restocking fee?

Yes, there should be no battery rattle. It doesn't really bother me. But what I don't get is this "problem" is so simple to fix (add some tape to the battery compartment to reduce the empty space). Why return it for this, especially if you have to pay a restocking fee?

That was my thinking too. Why not just add some thin black rubber adhesive tape to the battery compartment-- something like this would probably do nicely--which would permanently fix the problem with about 30 seconds of effort...?

    No, there's no restocking fee.

I'm intelligent enough to come up with the tape idea as well, but perhaps the notebook should be better engineered.

the 560 is indeed as hot or hotter than the 460, i have felt the 560 at stores and it is indeed as hot or hotter. If you have felt one and it is not it is altered or not bieng used to full power. In any case if 1 person has felt a hot one, they are all hot becuase most likely when it is hot it was run under extreme conditions which most likely will happen if you purchase it.

At my local CompUSA, there's no restocking fee but you'll only get store credit. Not the best return policy but definitely not the worst. Most other retail stores are exchange only.
