I started this new thread to carry on an on-going discussion at "what do you think of the build quality of the sz? " about scratches on the bar where all the lights of SZ series are located. These scratches seem to be caused by opening and closing the screen but we cannot be sure. There are 3 members (incl. myself) who have the same discovery thus far. Please look at your light bar (has to be under some reflection) and input...

there's almost 1mm gap between the "light bar" (as you call it) and the screen. fail to see on how it could scratch it.

Far more likely to get it scratched with the lid closed and something rubbin on the "light bar"

i agree with you somehow but the scratches are nicely patterned along where the screen moves...though, not randomly scratched.

Do you guys have the Non-Premium or the Premium ?

Because I had some markings on around the VAIO logo from the Speed / stamina and wireless buttons on my old SZ120, but I don't have them on my SZ160

I have them on my sz120. They are organized marks to the right of the "VAIO" logo on the screen. I only had light marks and thought it was dirt or something. But it was hard to remove, and I found the exact marks on my friends SZ120 except far worse. The way I can explain the marking is it looks as if my vaio's face has been sleeping on a spiral notebook the whole night. =P

it will only happen if you carry your notebook in your hand, you will be pressing the screen against the switches... anyway, I love my Sony SZ110, but this will be my first and last Sony notebook...

neilk2350, strange that it seems like only you, Kiyoshiro at your thread and I have this exact problem. hope more people will be aware of these scratches later because i really can't imagine what sony can do with this specific problem on individual bases.

yeah, don't have this problem on mine, maybe because I don't carry it all the time and keep the lid open

This is ****! Sony must replace all the notebooks that have this problem!

I have scratches, not on the light bar, but in and around the vaio logo due to the buttons. It's kind of annoying....

I have scratches from the switches in the VAIO logo.

My screen frontal frame is slightly convex on the center of the lower side, making a little gap between it and the screen. Maybe this 1mm difference is what makes the switches reach the lid...
