I have used a 1080p screen in my past Z's, but I think I might go with a 900p screen for my wife. It has been so long since I have used one, I thought I might ask for new/recent opinions.

The one thing I do not like about my 1080p screen is the blown out colors. Its crazy saturated!

Heres one thing I would like to know. If you have a 900p screen and set it to 100% fonts, does it scale down to the look of the 1080p at 125% or somewhere in between?

Also, I have seen the old youtube video comparing the screens. If you watch the video, you can plainly see the saturation issue with the 1080p screen. I have yet to find a good calibration file (.icc) for this screen.

I will be honest and say that at night, I do need to scale the browser to 125% for easier reading. During the day its fine, but at night its harder to read. (Her as well)

Although, we both like the screen real estate. This is why I am wondering about the font scaling to 100%. Although, I bet it depends on the program too.

Is the 900p screen washed out compared to the 1080? The video can be deceiving. Anyone out there calibrated the 900p with good results?

I do like knowing I have a rare beast running 1080p. However, this one is hers and if the 900p screen is comparable, we might give it a whirl.

    Hmmm.. what to do.

The 900p scaled at 100% makes text slightly smaller then 1080p scaled at 125%

    The 900p screen is beautiful.
    900p > 1080

    Yes, please do share.

    YouTube - VAIO Z???? New Model???HD?AdobeRGB????96?????????

Check out 3:38, this was kind of shocking to see the 900p more natural with its colors. I knew that my 1080p was over saturated, but wow!

THIS THREAD IS NOT TO SLING CRAP AT EACH OTHER! PLEASE TAKE IT SERIOUS AS THERE ARE MANY Z, AND FUTURE Z OWNERS THAT WILL USE THIS FOR REFERENCE!

    Thanks!

I have the 1080p screen and I don't think there's a difference between the 1080p/900p screens as they were advertised the same way in my country. It outperforms any previous/current generation notebook. Compared to the new SB? It nukes it off the face of the planet. Visit the thread here to see my pictures of the Z and SB screens: http://forum.notebookreview.com/sony/575495-sony-vaio-z13-vs-sb-sa-quality-differences-2.html . Keep in mind though the Z is tuned down to 900p at the time when I took the photo, but it shouldn't differ much.

However, I seldom find myself using the 1080p. I have <20/20 vision, no astigmatism, myopia and all that stuff but I find the 1080p more of a hindrance than being productive. 900p will serve you well if you have good vision, and that's my resolution of choice.

If you have extremely sharp eyes the 1080p will offer you some more real estate if you're a tough multitasker.

For those of you who ask why I did I pick the 1080p screen, Sonystyle Hong Kong only offered 4 Z models (no CTO), which were either:

    1. i5, 4GB RAM, 7200rpm 500GB HDD, No DVD Drive, 900p screen
    2. i5, 6GB RAM, 128GB SSD, DVD Drive, Built in WAN, 900p screen
    3. i7, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD, DVD Drive, 1080p screen
    4. i7, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD, Blu-ray Drive, 1080p screen

and I went for the third one. No reason to tell the manager to ditch the 1080p screen for me right? :D

I didn't see any difference between screen colors when I looked at the Z with 900 and Zwith 1080 side by side. Although I prefered the 1080 which is why both my Z's have 1080.

Wish I could see the 1080p in person, but it does seem the 900p is more natural.

The 900p is brighter than the 1080p screen with greater contrast ratio. The 1080p is less bright but supposedly more color accurate. Both are amazing screens overall, so don't worry about the 900p being washed out or anything. Its on par with the 1080p and betters it in some areas.

    Screen specs from Notebookcheck

    1080p
    Avg Brightness: 236.3cm/m2
    Brightness Distribution:95%

I have one of each right now. How do you recommend I test them? I do not have a good camera right now to show differences via photo. I do find that the 1080p is not as bright, but it not only has a great deal more real estate, but the detail on hi def images and videos is incredible. If I had never seen the FHD one, I would say the 900p was as wonderful as it can get at this size, but other than brightness - and the FHd is mighty bright, higher in appearance than the spec quoted above would suggest - for watching movies I'd probably pick the lower res, as it seems to pop out colors better, suggesting the contrast ratio differences reported earlier may be correct as well.

Someone once suggested that the FHD screen ate more battery life. Anyone have a thought about that?
