I have a Sony Vaio, model VPCSE13FX. I have turned off auto brightness in the Vaio Control Center, but I'm still getting a strange screen dimming/flickering issue.

The screen seems to try to dim/brighten when ALL of the following conditions are met:
    1. the laptop is unplugged from the charger
    2. the screen brightness is turned down (any amount less than max)
    3. the display changes quickly from mostly light colours, such as this forum, to mostly dark colours, such as when I navigate to a dark/black webpage and vise-versa (note that this is not only tied to web browsing, that's just an example)

The screen flickers a little during this dimming/brightening, before settling in on the correct brightness. This is clearly not an issue with ambient light, since I have turned off auto brightness, and covering the light sensor yields no effect.

The ideal resolution would be to disable this auto adjustment of display brightness, since the flickering is really annoying, and I prefer not to have it auto adjust anyway.... but I haven't been able to find a way to do that. I hope this isn't some sort of hardware issue. This laptop is almost brand new (got it for xmas).

Does anyone have any advice? Thank you ahead of time for your help.

Yep that solved it! It was indeed the "Intel Power Saving Technology" that was messing it up. Thank you so much!

    Hello,

How do you disable Intel Display Power Saving Technology on a VAIO SONY VPCSB16FG.
My problem is similar but it’s constant (almost like a rapidly flicking dimming light weather you’re surfing the net or not and no matter what colour the page).
The auto brightness is turned off and I have followed other instructions under the control panel to disable Intel display power saving technology, but I can’t find this setting anywhere, to uncheck the box!
I’m assuming my type of computer has a different setting!
The manual doesn’t cover this as well! Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    cheers,
